11/23/06 West Pittsburgh House Fire
A fire broke out at a home in West Pittsburgh around 1:30 P.M. Thanksgiving day. Taylor Twp. and South New Castle Boro firemen brought the fire under control quickly and saved the structure from serious damage. The fire marshall from PSP was called to investigate the incident.

11/20/06 Chippewa 2 Car Accident on 37th St.
2 vehicles collided at the intersection of 37th Street Ext. and Oakville Road in Chippewa Twp., Beaver County around 10 A.M. Monday. One person was flown by Life Flight from the Beaver County Airport. Chippewa police, fire and Medic Rescue were on the scene.

11-12-06 2 Cars Collide on 224 at Wal-Mart
Four people are injured in a late afternoon accident in front of Wal-Mart on Rt. 224 in Union Twp. The victums were transferred by ambulance to local hospitals and their conditions were not immediately known. The cars had to be towed from the scene and New Castle State Police are continuing their investigation.

11/11/06 Red Cross Helps Elderly Fire Victims
Butler Red Cross employees and volunteers met today with elderly fire victums from the Concordia Home fire on Nov. 5th. According to Jody Knights, executive director of the Butler chapter of the American Red Cross, over 100 victums are eligible for financial aid to help buy items lost in the fire. The event held at the Cabot United Methodist Church may be repeated after more victums are contacted.

At least 5 people were stabbed around midnight at Charlie's Place on Ray Street in New Castle. Video is now available.

09/25/06 Fire Destroys House in New Beaver Twp.
Fire destroys a nearly century old 2 story house on Glenkirk Road around 1 P.M. Monday afternoon. At least 6 fire companies battled the blaze for several hours. Video now available.

Woman Assaulted
09/07/2006 A woman reportedly was assaulted at Rigotti's Plaza on Butler Ave. in New Castle shortly before 5 P.M. today. We arrived on the scene as police were gathering evidence and questioning witnesses.

Moravia St. House Fire 09/03/06
Shortly before 3. A.M. Sunday morning, Neighbors reported seeing flames coming from a 2-story home on Moravia Street in Shenango Twp. When firemen arrived, they found the home totally engulphed in flames. Neighbors reported that people were living in the home but were unaware if thet were there at the time of the fire.

SUV vs Semi on RT. 60 Neshannock Twp.
A SUV and Semi collide on Rt. 60 near the King's Chapel overpass in Neshannock Twp. 2 people were taken by Noga ambulance to Ellwood City Hospital. The truck driver from the Sharon area was not injured in the accident. Neshannock police are investigating.

Fiery Truck-Car Accident on Rt. 19

4 Local Girls Honored By State Police
Four local girls were honored by PA State Police, Troop D Butler, for their heroic acts in saving a woman from a burning vehicle. The accident which happened last July, took place on Rt. 19, Washington Twp., Lawrence Co. The four girls, Bethanie Buchowski, Elissa Marti, Cara Sharbaugh and Amy Walzer, were returning from a concert in Pittsburgh. They came upon a two car accident, one of which was on fire. Their efforts saved the young woman from the burning vehicle. Unfortunately, a person in the second vehicle did not survive. The event honoring the girls took place at the New Castle Barracks of the PA State Police on Rt. 18 in Neshannock Twp.

Allied Community Living Fire
07/10/06 Fire broke out at the Allied Community Living Center on Long Ave. on New Castle's South Side. The Center houses mentally challenged individuals and all were beleived to have escaped the fire which ocurred about 11:15 p.m. One side and corner of the complex were severely damaged. Cause of the fire and damage estimates were not readily available when this story was posted.

Woman Falls From Bridge at McConnell

Michaels Furniture Store Fire
A fire at Michael's Furniture Store on Eighth Street in Ellwood City severely damage an adjoining building to the main structure. According to Fire Chief Connie MacDonald, the fire which occured around 11 p.m. took nearly 2 hours to bring under control. The fire was ruled an arson by the State Police Fire Marshal's Office. Ellwood City's Fire Chief urges residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

07/04/06 Rt. 422 Pulaski Twp. car / truck ax
A woman traveling on Rt. 422 towards New Castle crossed over the center lane and hit a truck traveling the other direction. The woman was trapped for nearly an hour as Pulaski and Mahoning Township Firemen removed the roof of her vehicle to extricate her. Both air-ambulance services could not fly because of bad weather. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown by ground ambulance. Her condition was not immediately known. The truck driver was not hurt. The accident happened directly in front of the New Castle School of Trades. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

06/28/06 Jacquelin Bed & Breakfast Fire

Mahoning Twp. Garbage Truck Roll-Over
A Semi-Truck hauling garbage rolled over near Tony's Lounge on Rt. 224 in Mahoning Twp. around 9 o'clock this morning. The truck ended-up along the side of the road spilling it's load of garbage. Mahoning Twp. was assisted by Union Police and PennDot was called to the scene. The driver escaped injury.

Shees Mini-Mart in W. Pgh. Robbed
A man robbed the Shee's mini-mart in West Pittsburgh at approx. 8:30 this evening. While being pursued by a civilian, the suspect fired at least one shot. State Police and local police departments arrived on the scene and were looking for a red middle 90's Bonneville that the man may have fled in.

06/24/06 Fire Destroys Buildings In Ellwood City

Truck Traps Driver After Rolling Over on Rt18
Around 1:30 this afternoon, a flatbed truck carrying a piece of machinery, rolled over near Reed Oil on Rt. 18. The driver was trapped for approximately 45 mins. and was airlifted from the scene. His condition was not immediately available. A State Police reconstruction team was called to assist in the investigation.

Rt. 422 By-Pass Scene of Pickup Crash
06/03/06 3 people sent to area hospitals after a pickup crashes into a guardrail on Rt. 422 by-pass in Union Twp. The 1:30 p.m. crash occured in the median at the intersection of Toll 60 & Rt. 422 By-Pass. The guardrail crashed through the windshield of the pickup, passing through the cab where the three people were sitting and exited the rear window. The guardrail remained impelled in the vehicle as rescuers rushed to extricate trapped victums. A Stat-Medevac helicopter landed on the highway and flew one of the victums to a nearby trama center. 2 others were transported by ground ambulance. No conditions available at posting time of this story.

5-25-06 2 Car Ax on Rt224 At Tonys Lounge
A 2 car accident near Tony's Lounge, sent one person by STAT MedEvac helicopter to a local trauma center. Mahoning Twp. F.D. assisted MEDEVAC ambulance at the scene. Northwest Lawrence Regional Police investigated the incident.

05/24/06 Three Hurt After Hi-Speed Pursuit
A high speed chase on Rt. 224 thru Lawrence Co. ends with 3 people hurt in Poland Twp., Ohio. PA State Police were attempting to stop a westbound vehicle that was traveling at an excessive speed. Upon approaching the Ohio line, PSP terminated the chase. The fleeing vehicle continued into Ohio where it collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Rt. 224 and Lowellville Rd. Two people in the vehicle that was hit were injured along with a female passenger in the other vehicle. The driver fled the scene and police searched for him in a nearby wooded area.

03/25/06 Clayton St. Fire / New Castle
An early morning fire severely damaged a two and a half story brick structure in the Mahoningtown section of New Castle. Shortly after 3 a.m., firemen responded to calls by neighbors reporting an explosion at the home. At 6 a.m., the stubborn fire had firemen still putting out hot spots.

03/24/06 Cornell Ave. House Fire
A Shenango Twp., Lawrence County home was destroyed by fire shortly before noon on Friday. The fire apparently started in the garage area and quickly spread throughout the remainder of the house. Shenango V.F.D. was assisted by Slippery Rock Twp., Taylor Twp., S. New Castle Boro, Union Twp. and Neshannock Twp. fire departments.No injuries were reported and the state fire marshall is investigating. The local Red Cross was on the scene assisting the occupants of the home.

03/21/06 Dave Michel
Fire destroys an auto repair garage in Slippery Rock Twp., Lawrence County at around 2 o'clock this afternoon. Dave Michel, owner of the repair business, told KDSTV that he was alone in the garage, along with his two dogs, when the fire broke out. According to Michel, one of the dogs apparently did not make it out. At least three cars and a motorcycle were destroyed. Michel went on to say that he was able to save his computer system and office records. No reports of any injuries and the fire is under investigation.

New Castle Fire - Court St. - 03/19/06
A fire broke out shortly before noon in a 2 story frame structure. New Castle firemen brought the fire under control in about 25 mins. but not before the second floor suffered severe damage and there was smoke and water throughout the remainder of the house. Occupants of the home escaped safely. Additional New Castle firemen were called out to help douse the flames. No injuries were reported.

03/17/06 Koppel Rowhouse Fire
An early morning fire destroyed a vacant rowhouse on Second Ave. in Koppel. At least four fire departments responded to the scene and saved a nearby home. Residents of Koppel have wanted the structure torn down for years.

03/15/06 Rt. 108 North Beaver Truck Rollover
A semi-truck hauling a large steel coil rolled over onto its side shortly before noon today. The accident happened on the sharp bend at the bottom of Mt. Jackson hill. The coil came off the truck and landed nearby. The driver was not seriously injured and was walking around when emergency personel arrived. Traffic was restricted to one lane as state investigators with Motor Carrier Enforcement inspected the truck.

Ellwood City House Fire
03/13/06 Two people taken to the hospital after a fire breaks out in a Todd Ave home. An elderly woman and her son were treated at Ellwood City Hospital shortly after 1 a.m. this morning. The smokey fire damaged the living room and sent smoke throughout the house. The two victums were rescued by police, neighbors and firemen. The fire is under investigation as to its origin.

02/14/06 A mid-morning fire destroyed the VFW in Springfield Twp., Mercer Co. Fire departments from 3 counties battled the blaze for several hours before bringing it under control. Program length is 17 minutes.

02/06/06 Union Twp. Wal-Mart 2 Car Ax
2 vehicles collided on Rt. 224 in front of Wal-Mart at around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. One person was flown to a Youngstown hospital and several others were treated locally. The main entrance to Wal-Mart was blocked for nearly an hour. State police are investigating.

Shenango Twp. Firemen, along with others, saved a South New Castle Boro home from being destroyed by an early afternoon fire.

01/30/06 Union Twp. Truck Rollover
A truck carrying building materials rolled over around 3:00 P.M. while exiting Rt. 422 onto the northbound ramp of Rt. 60. Several occupants of the truck were checked at the scene. State police, Union Twp. Police and Dept. of Transportation are investigating. Union Twp Fire Dept. assisted at the scene and also provided traffic control.

Brandi Dunn Funeral
01/19/06 The funeral for 22 year old Brandi C. Dunn, was held today, at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Grove City. Dunn, who was found dead in the burned out home of her parents, was beaten to death by an alleged intruder. Her husband, Scott Dunn, has retained an attorney and is no longer speaking directly with investigators.

McGuire Home Elevator Scare
01/16/06 A smoking elevator motor caused some anxious moments at the McGuire Home near New Brighton. First reports had people trapped in the elevator, but firemen found everyone had gotten out by the time they arrived. Fans were used to expell a small amount of smoke. No injuries were reported.

01/14/06 An early morning arson fire took the life of 22 year old Brandi Dunn.

Morton St. Fire
A fire damages a residence at 822 and a half Morton street late this afternoon. New Castle Fire Dept. personel brought the fire under control in a short time and preventing damage to other nearby structures.

Press Conf. For Lt. Col. Michael McLaughlin
January 07, 2006 Lt. Col. Michael McLaughlin, 44, of Mercer Co., was killed in a suicide bombing attack last week in Iraq. A press conf. was held on Jan 7th at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory in New Castle detailing the events of his death. As a Major, before his promotion to Lt. Colonel this past October, McLaughlin addressed the 107th Field Artillery at Shenango High School shortly before their deployment to Iraq. Following the press conference, this speech, by McLaughlin, may also be heard. It was recorded December 28, 2003.
