12/31/10 North Sewickley Brighton Road House Fire
12/31/10 North Sewickley - Fire broke out around 12:30 pm at a home along Brighton Road near Ellwood City. According to Mark Sutherland, North Sewickley Fire Chief, the fire originated in the area of the wood burner in the basement and then spread to the first floor of the home. Everyone escaped and it is believed there were no injuries. Franklin Township and Ellwood City fire departments provided mutual aid.

12/31/10 State Road Hickory Twp. Rollover Accident
12/31/10  Hickory Twp. - A pickup truck passing another vehicle lost control and flipped over into a drainage ditch, ejecting the driver. The accident occurred on State Route 388 about one-half mile north of Route 108. The driver was flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. New Castle State Police Identify the victim as 58 year-old William Lee Griffin, Jr. of New Castle. Griffin was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected approximately 30 feet from his overturned vehicle. No condition was available as of posting of this story.

12/29/10 Missing Woman Found After Crash in Wayne Twp.
12/29/10 A 27 year-old woman who was missing after a crash in Wayne Township, Lawrence County, has been found. The crash involving her overturned vehicle occurred yesterday evening around 9:30 pm on Wampum Road. After search and rescue personnel were called to the scene, the woman was found around 3:45 am in the woods and taken to Ellwood City Hospital for evaluation.

12/22/10  An early afternoon fire destroyed a Lawrence County home on Shaner Road in Washington Township.

12/12/10 New Beaver Crash Fatally Injures Woman
12/12/10  A single vehicle crash took the life of a young woman in New Beaver Boro around 7 pm. The crash occurred just as the woman crossed the turnpike overpass on Route 168 and lost control. The car traveled off the left berm and eventually crossed Beaver Dam Road and struck a tree. She was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead before firemen could rescue her. There were reports of possible icy conditions in the area at the time of the accident. Police from New Beaver continue to investigate the accident. 

12/09/10 Fire Destroys Old New Castle Refactories Building
12/09/10 Fire destroys a building belonging to the former New Castle Refactories on Industrial Street shortly after six am this morning. Firemen found the building completely ablaze and the roof had already partially collapsed. A  general alarm was called in and the large aerial was set up to fight the fire. Workers were at the location yesterday doing demolition work in the building that previously housed the shipping / receiving area of the company. Fire Chief Tom Maciarello speculates the fire had been burning for a good time before being noticed and called in. The fire marshall is investigating the incident.

12/03/10 325 E. Leasure Avenue Apartment Fire
12/03/10  Smoke was reported coming from an apartment in a building at the corner of E. Leasure Ave. and Highland Avenue. Firemen pulled a hose into the building and had the fire under control in a short time. MedEvac Ambulance personnel stood by until the fire department cleared the scene.

11/27/10 Fire Destroys Jacks R Wild Bar and Grille
11/21/10 Fire broke out at the Jacks R Wild Bar and Grille located on Route 62 just west of Mercer. The two-story wood frame building was fully involved with fire when firemen arrived. It took the fire only about an hour and a half to completely destroy the building. The bar was open at the time of the fire and and the patrons and employees escaped without harm. 11/21/10 South Side Shooting Sends Man To The Hospital
11/21/10 A shooting occurred in the area of Friendship Street and S. Mill Street in New Castle around 2:30 a.m.  The exact area is unknown but most of the activity was concentrated in the parking lot next to Player’s Bar and Grill on S. Mill St. One man was transferred by ambulance to Jameson Hospital and was to be air-lifted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. It is not known if the man was actually flown by medical helicopter.  A large group of people had gathered at the hospital and a disturbance ensued. Police from outlying townships were called to the hospital to assist New Castle Police who have not yet released information concerning the shooting.

11/21/10 Early Morning Fire Destroys New Castle Vacant House
11/21/10  New Castle - A vacant house on New Castle’s east side was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning. The fire, erupting around 1:20 a.m., was called in by several people stating the house was completely ablaze. The two story wood frame house is located on E. Washington St. next to the parking lot for the VFW. The home was completely gutted and is expected to be a total loss.

11/17/10 Billie Gallick Waives Her Attempted Homicide Case
11/17/10 Billie Dawn Gallick waived her case to having a pre-liminary hearing today in Central Court to face attempted homicide charges in the shooting of her husband, Bruce Gallick on November 7, 2010. Judge Jerry Cartwright reduced her bond from $100,000 to $10,000 and she was expected to be released later this afternoon. Billie Gallick is accused of firing four shots at her husband during a domestic dispute at their home on Francis Place. Gallick is a well-known hair dresser with her business on Wilmington Avenue in New Castle.

11/15/10 Mercer Apartment Building Fire
11/15/10 Fire seriously damages an apartment in a Mercer commercial building across from the Mercer County Courthouse. Several retail businesses and at least four apartments on North Diamond Street were affected by the 10 p.m. fire. A woman who lived in the apartment that caught fire had to be rescued from her second floor balcony. An Italian restaurant and skin care business on the first floor suffered major water and smoke damage. The fire reportedly started in an utility room on the second floor.

11/12/10 Construction Worker Flown After Fall From Roof
11/12/10  A construction worker fell approximately 15 feet to the concrete floor of a garage he was working on. The accident occurred at a home on McClelland Avenue in Union Township. He was taken by Noga Ambulance to a landing zone near the Union High School football field and flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. 11/11/10 2 Vehicle Accident Leaves One Man Dead

11/10/10 Portersville Semi Rollover With Entrapment 99mm
11/10/10 A double box trailer semi-truck rolled over on Interstate-79 early this morning, trapping the driver for over an hour. The accident happened just south of the Route 422 over pass at the 99 mile marker in Muddycreek Township, Butler County. The rig ended up in the median and enabled traffic to still travel in each direction. The northbound lanes were eventually closed for a short to enable Life-Flight to land on the highway to remove the victim. He was concious and talking to rescuers as they used saws and the "jaws of life" to extricate him. Butler State Police are investigating.

11/06/10 Seven-Vehicle Accident on I-79 Near Grove City
Icy conditions on Interstate 79 in Mercer County contributed to several accidents involving as many as seven vehicles. A truck reportably overturned several times and several others ran into each other trying to avoid the accident. Vehicles ended up in the medial and over the east embankment in the northbound lanes at the 112 mile marker. According to Mercer State Police, most occupants suffered only minor injuries.

11/03/10 Fire at J&L Metals in Shenango Township
Fire broke out shortly after noon at J&L Metals, a metals reclamation facilty located on Willowbrook Road in Shenango Township, Lawrece County. The woodframe one-story building could have suffered serious damage but was quickly brought under control by Shenango Township Fire Department and their mutual aid companies. According to David Rishel, Shenango Township fire chief, a worker using a cutting torch accidently caught the building on fire. The fire was contained to a wall, ceiling and part of the roof. Fireman were on scene for approximately two hours.

10-30-10 Springfield Township House Fire
10-30-10  Shortly before 10 pm this evening, fire broke out in a home at 2739 Leesburg-Volant Road in Springfield Township, Mercer County. Flames were coming from a wall near the chimney when firemen arrived. The residents were not at home at the time of the fire but several pets were rescued from the home by neighbors. The fire, which has been ruled accidental, was brought under control in about 45 minutes, according to Chief Stephen Rea.

10/28/10 Man Suffers Burns at Indspec Plant in Petrolia, PA
A worker at a Butler County chemical plant was burned in an industrial accident late this morning. The victim was flown by medical helicopter and his condition is unknown. Indspec, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Occidental Petroleum Company located in the boro of Petrolia, is the world’s largest producer of resorcinol, according to the company’s website.

10/20/10 Ambulance Rolls Over on Route 376

Lawrence County 911 received a call at 3:38 this morning that an ambulance traveling westbound on Route 376 had rolled over near the exit ramp of Route 224 (West State Street) in Union Township. Union Township Police responded and found two ambulance personnel in an ambulance that had rolled over onto its side. The man and woman were taken by the local Med-Evac Ambulance Service to Jameson Hospital in New Castle.The overturned ambulance was with the McGonigle Ambulance Service from Mercer County and was not transporting any patients. State Police from New Castle have  identified the driver as 29 year-old Christopher Nagy of Sharpsville and the passenger as 23 year-old Hope Wright of Sharon. Their injuries were listed as minor. The ambulance was towed from the scene by Del’s Garage.

10/04/10 3-Vehicle Accident on Route 65 at Route 388

At approximately 3:15 p.m. today, a three vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Route 65 and Route 388 in Shenango Township, Lawrence County.. A white Durango pulled from Route 388 onto Route 65 and into the path of a black Chevrolet SUV that was traveling north on Route 65. After impact, the Chevrolet SUV was pushed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped along side the  roadway. The driver in the SUV was trapped for a short time and was extricated by members of the Shenango Township VFD and with the assistance of Slippery Rock Township VFD. The driver of the black SUV was flown by Stat-Medevac Helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. The people in the white Durango and the truck driver were not injured and all refused treatment at the scene. Route 65 was closed in both directions until the wreckage was cleared. Shenango Township police are investigating this accident.

10/02/10 Scott Township Rollover Fatal Ax on Route 108

10/02/10 An early morning accident on Route 108 in Scott Township takes the life of a 36 year-old New Castle man. Kenneth Hammond lost control of his 1997 Cadillac sedan while rounding a curve. The vehicle then rolled over several times and ejected him. Coroner Russell Noga pronounced Hammond dead at the scene at 6:42 a,m, .

10/01/10 $11,000 For Cancer Victim Stolen From Restaurant

10/01/10  Jie-sheng Lin, owner of China Banquet in Downtown New Castle, was preparing to leave for China Friday afternoon to be with his mother who suffers from cancer. Lin, along with friends and family, raised $11,000 to help his mother, Sai-ying Chen with medical expenses. Around 2:30 pm Friday, three men and four woman, entered the restaurant and while distracting the employees, entered the office and removed the money. The men, who were wearing regular clothes and spoke Spanish and the women who were wearing flowered skirts, left before anyone knew the money was missing. KDSTV spoke with the owner’s son, Gao Feng Lin and he explains more on what happened.

09/25/10 Ellwood Teenager Killed in Motorcycle Accident

09/25/10  Nineteen year-old Sabre Ann Patterson of 103 Hazen Avenue, Ellwood City, was fatally injured in a single motorcycle accident early Saturday morning in Wayne Township. Patterson was a passenger on a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle driven by twenty-one year-old Justin Neal Eidenmiller of  221 Eidenmiller Lane, Ellwood City. According to New Castle State Police, Eidenmiller’s motorcycle was traveling North on Route 65 near Squaw Run Road when it failed to negotiate a curve and struck the guard rail, Patterson was then ejected and tossed over the embankment. She was pronounced dead at the scene and Eidenmiller was flown to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries. Both victims were wearing helmets.

09/19/10 Car Theft Suspect Apprehended in New Castle
A car stolen from the parking lot of the Haven Nursing Home on Paul Street around 7 a.m. this morning was involved in a crash off Wilder Street. As the suspect approached the end of the dead end street, he entered the yard of a residence and went over the hill. The suspect fled on foot and soon became the subject of a search involving a police dog, State Troopers and a search helicopter from the state police. A resident contacted police about a suspicious person behind the Madonna Church and the suspect was eventually apprehended by Union Police, New Castle Police and the State Police.

09/10/10 Man Dies in New Castle Rollover Accident
09/10/10  A man dies after crashing his car on South Cascade Street in New Castle shortly before 8:30 p.m. The driver first sheared off a utility pole, then traveled to the opposite side of the street taking out some temporary roadsigns. He then again crossed to the other side of the roadway and crashed into a small brick building. The car continued on to take out another utility pole and rolled over onto its roof. The man in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Power was out in the area and Cascade Street was expected to be closed for at least ten hours in order to replace the utility poles and clear the wreckage. More video later on this story.

08/30/10 Supporters of the Disabled Protest NCASD

08/30/10 A dozen or so members of PA Adapt (a grassroots disability rights organization), held a protest in front of the New Castle Area School District’s Administration building at Croton Avenue and Cascade Street. The group complained that the school district was not moving fast enough to remedy its non-compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act which requires public schools to make facilities accessible to the handicapped. Superintendent George Gabriel met with the group and agreed to address their demands including meeting with representatives for further discussion. 08/23/10 Dog Dies in Hickory Township House Fire

Shortly before 10 p.m., neighbors reported a house on fire at the intersection of Newman Road and State Road ( Route 388 ). They were not aware if the occupants were at home. Firemen brought the fire under control in about a half hour. Early reports had the occupants at a function but were called to their home after the fire broke out. We were told that two dogs were in the home and that the smaller dog perished in the fire. Ambulance personnel from MedEvac Ambulance Co. were seen administering oxygen to the larger dog and was told by one member of the ambulance crew that the dog was apparently going to be ok. Water tankers from several other fire departments shuttled water to the scene from a nearby lake.

08/22/10 Fire Damages Pro Shop at New Castle Country Club
An automatic fire alarm alerted L.E.O.C. (Lawrence County 911) around four o’clock this morning of a possible fire at the New Castle Country Club. Neshannock firemen arrived to eventually see some smoke coming from the roof area. It was determined that there was a fire in the pro shop which is attached to the main building. Fireman located the source of the fire and brought it under control with-in a half hour. Fire departments from Mahoning, Union and New Wilmington assisted at the scene.

08/14/10 Serious Flooding in Lawrence County

08/05/10 Head-on Crash on Pulaski Road in Neshannock Twp
08/05/10 Two cars collided shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. One person was trapped for nearly an hour and had to be flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center. A person in the second vehicle was taken by ground ambulance to Jameson Hospital. Neshannock police are investigating the incident.

08/02/10 15 Year-Old Boy Drowns in Shenango River
08/02/10 A 15 year-old Farrell youth loses his life in a swimming accident in the Shenango River in Sharon, Pennsyvania. Brandin Norris, who was with several younger friends near the Budd Street Bridge, went under and never resurfaced. Divers found his body in approximately eight feet of water. 

07/21/10 North Beaver Route 551 Fatal Accident
One man was killed after the vehicle he was driving crossed the roadway and struck a utility pole on Route 551 in North Beaver Township. Two other passengers were taken to Jameson Hospital by Noga Ambulance. All victims were from the Beaver County Area.

07/16/10 Pine Valley Bible Camp Office Fire
07/16/10 The North Sewickley Township Fire Department, along with a half-dozen other mutual aid fire companies, were called to a structure fire shortly after 4:30 this morning. The fire at Pine Valley Bible Camp along Chapel Drive in North Sewickley Township, destroyed the main office building. The roof of the structure had already fallen in when firemen arrived, according to Mark Sutherland, Fire Chief of North Sewickley Fire Department. Firemen  had to lay at least 2000 feet of hose from a fire hydrant located on Chapel Drive to get water to the scene. Police say that the care taker on the site had reported the fire and that the owner was out of town. The camp is usually busy during the summer months but no campers were there when the fire broke out this morning. The camp celebrated Community Days, which is an open house for the community, just. this past Sunday.

07/11/10 Elderly Woman Rescued After Car Hits Pole

07/09/10 Wilmington Township RV-House Fire
Fire erupts in a recreational vehicle near a home in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County around 8:30 this morning. The home located at 4692 Route 208 at Covered Bridge Road, soon became a casualty of the fire. The fire spread to the brick structure destroying the bedroom area of the Womer family who was preparing to leave on vacation in just a few hours. Many firemen had to be checked out for heat related problems by Noga Ambulance personnel. More video later for "Emergency Personnel" only.

07/09/10 Man Flown After Crashing Bicycle on Route 388

07/04/10 Man Found Dead in Shenango Camper Home
Early reports had emergency personnel responding to a male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence on Savannah Gardner Road in Shenango Township, Lawrence County. Almost immediately, deputy coroner Sam Teolis was called to the scene. Further investigation revealed that explosives were on the property and the Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called to remove and dispose of them.

06/29/10 New Castle Home Damaged in Morning Fire

06/27/10 Ambridge MC Accident Kills Hermitage Man
06/27/10 A 50 year-old man from Hermitage was killed when he crashed his motorcycle into a car in Ambridge around five p.m. on Sunday. According to police, the motorcycle was traveling north on Route 65 at least 80 mph when it crashed into a south bound car making a left turn onto fourth street. The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames and tossed the driver approximately 25 feet to the pavement. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Beaver County coroner’s office. The female driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured but the front-seat male passenger was taken to the hospital. The condition of a child reported to have been in the rear seat of the passenger vehicle is unknown. Ambridge Police are continuing their investigation.

6/26/10 Windmill Blades Involved in New Castle Accident
A nearly 160 foot long wind turbine blade, being hauled as a part of a three vehicle oversize load traveling through New Castle, was involved in an accident at Kennedy Square. The tractor-trailer knocked over a stone fence pillar while attempting a turn at Jefferson Street. Lonnie Little, spokesperson for Little’s Pilot Car Service, told KDSTV that this was the first time in nearly 160 trips through Pennsylvania that their convoy was routed through New Castle. The two other similar loads were not involved in the accident. New Castle Police permitted the trucks to continue on after checking for proper documents and gathering information.

06/21/10 Pickup Rolls Over on Route 376 in Neshannock
06/21/10 LOG IN FOR FULL 7:50 VIDEO FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL  A pickup truck traveling east on Route 376 in Neshannock Township rolled over several times and trapped the driver for approximately 45 minutes around 8 o’clock this morning. William Combs, age 39 of Lake Milton, Ohio, was taken by Stat Medevac Helicopter to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown. According to New Castle State Police, Combs suffered major injuries and will be cited for careless driving. Rescue personnel from Neshannock Township Fire Department and Noga Ambulance extricated the victim. The eastbound lanes of Route 376 were closed for about 15 minutes to allow the medical helicopter to land on the roadway and transport the victim. New Castle State Police are continuing their investigation.

06/16/10 Man Dies When Car Overturns in Hermitage

On this date (June 16, 2010), at  0702 hours, Hermitage Police were dispatched to an accident on Orangeville Road near East Street.  The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene..  The man was identified as Russell R. Mohney, 48, of 1251 Broadway Avenue, Masury, OH. Mohney’s vehicle was traveling in a southerly direction on Orangeville Road when it approached East Street and entered a left curve which it failed to negotiate.  The vehicle went then off the right/west side of the roadway just south of East Street.and rolled over onto its roof.  It appeared that Mohney was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. 06/11/10 Another Scrapyard Fire at Ferrotech
06/11/10 Fire broke out again at Ferrotech Corporation in the city of New Castle shortly after 6 oclock this evening. According to Fire Chief Thomas Maciarello, The fire was in a large outside scrap pile which has been the scene of several other fires, the most recent this past Wednesday. The smoke could be seen from surrounding townships and drew onlookers to see what was on fire. Ferrotech is a metals recycler and is located at 526 S. Jefferson Street in New Castle, just across the street from the fire department

06/07/10 Pickup Truck Overturns in Bradys Run Park
06/07/10 A pickup truck carrying scrap metal over turned in Brady’s Run Park around 6:30 p.m. Early reports had a man trapped under the vehicle for a short time. He was taken to the Medical Center in Beaver. After the rescue, firemen were seen cleaning up the scrap at the scene.

06/02/10 One Man Rescued From Roof After Suspicious Fire

6-2-10 Truck Overturns On I-79 Off Ramp in Muddy Creek Twp
06/02/10 A truck driver escaped serious injury after rolling his tractor-trailer on to its side early this afternoon. The accident happened on the I-79 south bound off ramp to State Route 422 in Muddy Creek Township. Another truck driver that came upon the accident pulled the driver from the cab before firemen arrived. Stat Medevac helicopter flew the man to a Pittsburgh hospital. The trailer was carrying tin plate scrap metal which spilled over the jersey barrier and onto the I-79 entrance ramp, closing it also. The truck is believed to be from J&R trucking in Boardman, Ohio and on its way to A-K Steel in Butler. Portersville VFD was assisted by Prospect Fire Department who helped set up the landing zone for the medical helicopter. Butler Sate Police are continuing their investigation. 06-01-10 Construction Worker Injured at Local Bridge Project
An unadentified construction worker was injured this morning after a piece of concrete fell on him while he working on a bridge project in Lawrence County. The bridge crosses over the Mahoning River on State Route 18 between New Castle and North Beaver Township.The man who was working for Brayman Construction Company of Saxonburg, PA, was brought back up to the bridge surface where medical personnel from Medevac Ambulance and rescue personnel from North Beaver Township Fire Department provided aid. He was transported to a landing zone where he was flown by Stat Medevac helicopter to a Pittsburgh Hospital. According to a spokesman at the scene for Brayman Construction, they have been working on the project for about two weeks. .

5-29-10 New Castle Maryland Avenue Duplex Fire
05-29-10 An early morning fire in a two-story wood frame multi-family dwelling is being investigated by New Castle City Fire Department. Fire broke out around 4:30 am on the second floor. A man, woman and a small child escaped from the first floor apartment and and another man from the second floor apartment. Firemen brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes. The Red Cross was called to assist the occupants.

5-28-10 Ellwood City Shooting

05/22/10 Car-Truck Accident Injures One in Taylor Twp

Shortly before 2:30 this afternoon, a box truck and a small passenger vehicle collided at the intersection of Route 168 and Cherry Street in Taylor Township, Lawrence County. According to an eye-witness, Sheila Jones who was following the truck, said the car in front of the truck was attempting to make a right turn on to Cherry Street. The truck,carrying block ice, was unable to stop during a heavy downpour, striking the car in the rear and spinning it around.The truck then flipped over onto its side, trapping the driver for about a half hour. Rescue personnel from Taylor and Shenango Fire Departments extricated the driver who then was transferred to a local hospital. The car’s young male driver was apparently not injured but was going to the hospital to get checked out. New Castle City Police service Taylor Township and thus are handling the incident. One lane of the roadway (Route 168)  was blocked at the scene but traffic was routed around the accident

05/14/10 One Dead After Two Fall At McConnells Mill

05/03/10 Shenango Tractor-Trailer Rollover Accident

Shortly after 5 p.m., a truck carrying a large steel coil rolled over on a ramp on route 422 in Shenango Township. The truck was exiting Route 422 onto a ramp leading to westbound Route 422 by-pass when it rolled over and spilled its load. The coil landed on the roadway causing serious damage to the pavement. Only westbound traffic on the bypass had to be rerouted., The driver was being treated at the scene but it is not known if he was taken to the hospital. Shenango Township firemen had to contain small amounts of antifreeze and engine oil that was running down the ramp. We expect more info to be released by Shenango Township PD shortly.

05/03/10 Man Dies in Washington Township House Fire
05/03/10  A man dies in an early afternoon fire in Washington Township, Lawrence County. 61 year-old Randy Fulkerson had just come home from a lengthly stay in the hospital only to die in a fire at his home at 993 Route 956. 05/02/10 Union Township-West Washington St House Fire
05/02/10 A fire destroyed a home on W. Washington Street in Union Township late Sunday afternoon. According to fire chief Steve Stasko, the fire began in the kitchen area just minutes after the two adults and one child who lived there left the home. A nearby neighbor reported the fire at 4:50 p.m. The fire marshal and members of the Union Township Fire Department remained on the scene through out the evening trying to determine the cause of the fire. 

04/22/10 PennDot Worker Killed in Pulaski Township
04/22/10 A 42 year-old Ellwood City man was fatally injured in an accident involving a PennDot vehicle early this afternoon. The worker, yet to be identified, fell from a road grader while it was patching the berm along Route 551 in Pulaski Township. Chad Adams of the Pulaski Township Police Department said that man was run over by the grader after he had fallen and was most likely killed instantly. An autopsy was expected to be performed today to determine the exact cause of death. State Police are also investigating the accident primarily because it involved a state vehicle

04/21/10 Two Fires at Thermalmax Plant in New Castle

04/21/10 New Castle Firemen were called to an industrial fire at the Thermalmax Plant at 202 E. Cherry Street in the Mahoningtown section of New Castle shortly after 11 pm Tuesday. A dumpster was found burning in front of the building and was quickly put out. Then around 12:20 am, firemen returned to the plant after reports of the fire alarm sounding and smoke coming from the building. This time the fire was inside the rear of the building where rolls of insulating material were on fire. Firemen were on the scene till 2:44 am. The plant manufactures and distributes high temperature insulating material..

04/18/10 Route 168 Darlington Township 2-Vehicle Accident

Around 12:30 today, two vehicles collided in Darlington Township, Beaver County. The accident happened on Route 168 near the intersections of Moffett Drive and Morgan’s Lane, a short distance from Darlington Lake.  According to Beaver County State Police at the scene,, the small red Chevrolet coupe was traveling North on Route 168, lost control, went sideways and slammed into a southbound SUV. The man in the coupe was trapped for a short while and was extricated after removing the roof of the vehicle by members of the Darlington Township Fire Department. The man was flown to AGH by Life-Flight Air Ambulance from a landing zone at Northwestern School in Darlington. Two victims in the SUV were taken by ground ambulance to the Medical Center in Beaver County. Firemen from Big Beaver VFD provided traffic control for the accident. Beaver County State Police are investigating


04/16/10 One Person Killed in Center Township Accident
One man was killed when the vehicle he was driving struck a traffic signal pole on Broadhead Road in Beaver County around 10 a.m. WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh said the Beaver County Coroner identified the man as 56 year-old James Martin of Ambridge, Martin’s car was traveling north on Broadhead Road near the intersection of Center Commons Blvd, when it of the roadway and struck the pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Beaver County Coroner’s office. Chief Barry Kramer of the Center Township Police Department is conducting an ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.

03/27/10 Fire on Croton Avenue Destroys Day Care Center
Fire destroyed a day care center and apartments on Croton Avenue late Saturday evening on March 27. The smokey fire made it difficult for firemen to access the building to extinguish the fire. Several residents living in apartments above the daycare escaped without injury. After fighting the fire for several hours, the front wall collapsed. The building was a total loss and continued to smolder into the early hours of the morning. The complete 20 minute video for emergency personnel is now available. 

04/12/10 Driver Trapped in Shenango Township Accident
04/12/10  Shenango Township Firemen had to remove the doors from a car to extricate the driver of a vehicle who had struck a tree, The accident happened around 7 a,m, this morning on Old Pittsburgh  Road near Savannah Gardner Road. Noga Ambulance Medical Personnel transferred the victim to a nearby hospital. Shenango Township Police are investigating the accident.

04/11/10 Girl Rescued After Fall at Quaker Falls in Mahoning
A late afternoon fall injures a woman at Quaker Falls in Mahoning Township. Fire Chief Francis "Poncho" Exposito told KDSTV that the victim was out of the water at the bottom of the falls when he arrived. Using ropes, pulleys and a stokes basket, the woman was hoisted up the 50 foot cliff by rescuers. She then was air-lifted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown where her condition is not known.

04/10/10 Wendell August Forge Opens New Retail Outlet
Wendell August Forge of Grove City, Pennsylvania opened a new retail outlet just one month after a devastating fire destroyed their manufacturing facility and showroom. The new store which opened April 5th, is located just one mile east of Interstate 79 on Route 208 near Grove City. KDSTV reporter Joe Sobczak talked with President Will Knecht of Wendell August Forge and shared his excitement about the new location

04/07/10 Cookson Waives Hearing in Attempted Abduction
Robert Cookson of Shenango Township waived his right to a hearing today in Lawrence County Central Court. Cookson is charged by Shenango Township Police in the attempted abduction of a woman from the parking lot of the Butler Ave. Giant Eagle in Shenango Township on March 30, 2010.  He remains in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bond imposed by Magistrate Jerry Cartwright during his arraignment last week in Ellwood City.

04/07/10 Beaver Falls Apartment Building Fire
04/07/10 Shortly after four this morning, a fire broke out in a second floor rear apartment in a commercial building at 1821 Seventh Avenue in Beaver Falls. Firemen brought the fire under control in less than an hour. Two men in the rear apartment along with a woman and her four children in the front apartment, escaped the flames. Hear from the victims about their ordeal just moments after the fire began.

-4/05/10 Driver Rescued After Wampum Accident
04/05/10 A driver of an SUV lost control on SR18 in Wampum and became trapped when his vehicle rolled over and slammed into nearby trees. The man was rescued after about an hour by members of the Wampum Fire Department and several others who assisted. He was flown by medical helicopter to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, More video later on KDSTV.com.

04/03/10 Elderly Man Rescued At Leesburg Falls

Mercer County – 04/03/10

About 3:40 this afternoon, Springfield Township VFD was dispatched to Leesburg Falls on Falls Road for an elderly man (reported to be 92 years-old ) who had fallen over the hill near the falls. Fire Chief Stephen Rae says the man had fallen approx. 20-25 feet next to the falls and was suffering with cuts to the head and bleeding. The man was conscious and was able to talk with rescuers who used a stokes basket to bring the man up the embankment and to a waiting ambulance. The falls is a local tourist attraction and according to Rae, it is rare for someone to fall there but they have had to respond to a few calls there over the years.

04/02/10 Four Hurt in Route 224 Mahoning Township Accident
04/02/10 A 9:20 p.m. accident near Hilltop Centre on Route 224 sends four people to the hospital. Several victims were trapped in their vehicle after it was hit by a mini-van. Two victims were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown and two others to Jameson Hospital.

03/31/10 Shenango Township Attempted Abduction - Arrest

 03/31/10  Shenango Township Police have arrested, Robert K. COOKSON , W/N-M 46, DOB: 5/19/1963 for the attempted Abduction/Robbery that occurred last night at Giant Eagle on New Butler Road. He has been arraigned before District Judge Jerry Cartwright on charges of Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, REAP, Attempted Robbery of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Restraint .

03/30/10 Rubbish Hauler Rolls Over in Mahoningtown

03/30/10 Shortly after nine a.m. this morning, a rubbish hauler rolled over onto its side and spilled the load it was carrying. The load consisted of old lumber and debris from a demolition site. The accident occurred at the intersection of Montgomery Avenue and Liberty Street as the truck was making the turn onto Montgomery Avenue. The driver was taken to Jameson Hospital with minor cuts according to fire department rescue personnel at the scene. New Castle Police are investigating the accident along with Motor Carrier Enforcement of the Pennsylvania State Police

03/26/10 Stoneboro Firemen Rescue 5 Victims From Pond

03/26/10 Stoneboro / Mercer County - Five people were rescued from a pond by rescue personnel from Stoneboro Fire Department in Northeast Mercer County early this morning. At approximately 3:15 a.m., an emergency call came in stating that five people were on a roof of a jeep that became disabled in about 4 feet of water in a beaver pond along an old railroad bed off District Road.

03/25/10 Man Dies After Self-Inflicted Gun-Shot on Cedar Street
03/25/10  A man who federal agents were trying to issue a warrant to, shot himself on Cedar Street in Mahoningtown shortly before 9 p.m. Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Richard Johnson arrived at the scene and Medevac Ambulance transported the victim. New Castle Police had Cedar Street closed near the intersection with Orchard for nearly an hour and continue to investigate the incident.

03/17/10 One Car Accident In Wayne Township On RT 65

03/17/10 One man was left clinging to life after his car sheared-off a utility pole and ended up in a field along Route 65 in Wayne Township. The accident occurred shortly before midnight on a curve in the 4600 block of the Ellwood-New Castle Road. Noga Ambulance EMS personnel took the man to Ellwood City Hospital to connect with a medical helicopter that was called. It is not known if the man survived the accident. No other video available. 03/15/10 Pedestrian Hit By Truck Near Zelienople
03/15/10  One man was critically injured this afternoon after being hit by a garbage truck in Jackson Township, Butler County. The accident happened on Route 19 just north of the Zelienople / Jackson Township line in front of Northgate Plaza. The victim was flown to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh from Creekside Plaza, a landing zone across from the accident scene. No other video will be available.

03/14/10 Car Solutions Garage/House Damaged By Fire
03/14/10  An attached garage and house used by Car Solutions on Croton Avenue caught fire around 11 a.m. this morning. New Castle Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the garage area. Additional firemen were called and they soon had the fire under control. Croton Avenue was closed during the fire and New Castle Police directed traffic around the scene.

03/14/10 Two Woman Injured in Route 422 By-Pass Accident
03/14/10  An accident occurred on the Route 422 By-Pass in Union Township when a car carrying two women left the roadway and crashed into a tree. One woman was trapped for a short time and was flown to a Youngstown hospital after being extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle. New Castle City Police are investigating the incident. 

03/09/10 Car Plunges Into Shenango River
03/09/10  Around noon today, a passerby reported seeing tire tracks leading to the bank of the Shenango River near Nashua Bridge in Pulaski Township. Rescue crews converged on the scene and found a submerged vehicle about a quarter of a mile downstream in about five feet of water. After Neshannock Fire and Rescue brought their rescue boat to the scene and Del’s Garage wrecker removed the vehicle from the river, it was determined no one was inside. 03/06/10 Fire Destroys Historical Business in Grove City
An early afternoon fire destroyed the Wendell August Forge business in Grove City. Fire companies from three counties fought the blaze into the early evening hours. The business, started in the early twenties, makes personalized handcrafted metal gift ware.

03/04/10 Ellwood City Franklin Avenue House Fire
03/04/10 Fire broke out at a home at 516 Franklin Avenue in Ellwood City shortly after 5:30 today. Firemen arrived to find dense smoke pouring from the side basement door. 02/28/10 Blood Drive Benefit For Leukemia Patient
02/28/10 A replenishment blood drive for a former New Castle football player was held today at the Union Township Fire hall near New Castle. 19 year-old Anthony D’Ambrosia was diagnosed with AML (acute myeloid leukemia) early last fall just as he was beginning his sophomore year at Geneva College in Beaver Falls. He has received several rounds of chemotherapy and numerous transfusions of blood over the course of his treatment at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.. 02/26/10 A woman calls 911 and says her kitchen is on fire. Minutes later, firemen from New Castle Fire Department arrive on the scene and report flames through the roof. 02/24/10 Fire Damages Shad Hannas Memories Cafe
New Castle Firemen were called to Shad Hanna’s Memories Café on Butler Avenue shortly before 6:a.m. for a fire in a bathroom. Employees who were still at the business after closing earlier in the morning, reported the fire. Flames eventually erupted on the roof area and were knocked down after deploying the city’s aerial truck. The state fire marshal was called to investigate the fire. 02/23/2010 Wilmington Twp. Semi vs Car Head-On Crash
02/23/10  A woman is seriously injured and a semi-truck driver escapes injury in a head-on crash this afternoon in Wilmington Township, Mercer County. The accident occurred around 2:30 this afternoon several miles north of New Wilmington on Mercer-New Wilmington Road. The woman was trapped for about an hour in her car and was extricated by members of the New Wilmington Fire Department with the assistance of  emergency personnel from Noga Ambulance Service, Wilmington Ambulance Service, Volant  and Pulaski Fire Departments. A Stat-Medevac helicopter transferred the victim to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.

02/18/10 Ellwood City Roof Collapse Traps Residents
02/18/10 Around 1:45 this afternoon, a porch roof collapses and traps the two residents inside their Division Ave. home. Ellwood City Fire department rescue crews cut a path through the debris, creating an escape path for the residents to escape. Heavy snow is suspected to being the cause of the collapse. No injuries were reported.

02/17/10 Three Horses Die in Mercer County Barn Fire
02/17/10  Three horses perished in a barn fire in Mercer County shortly before 9 p.m. this evening.. Firemen were able to save part of the barn which also contained goats and rabbits. Fire Chief Bill Finley, Jr. of Mercer East End Fire Department, suspects the cause of the fire may have been possibly electrical in nature and thus ruling it accidental. 02/15/10 School Bus and Minivan Collide in Wampum
02/15/2010  10 students from the Mohawk Area School District and their bus driver escaped injuries this morning after the bus they were in collided with a minivan at the intersection of Clyde Street and Route 18 in Wampum Boro. The accident, which occurred shortly after 8 a.m., sent the driver of the minivan  by medical helicopter to UPMC in Pittsburgh. New Castle State Police are investigating the accident.

02/15/10 Neshannock 3-Vehicle Accident Traps One Driver
02/15/2010 Two people were injured, one seriously, in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Mitchell Road and State Route 18 in Neshannock Township, Lawrence County. The late afternoon accident trapped one man in his overturned pickup truck for nearly an hour. 02/07/2010 Skyview Towers Fire in New Castle

Fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m. at Skyview Towers high-rise apartment building located at 219 North Beaver Street in the city of New Castle. First firemen on the scene reported flames coming from a window in a sixth floor apartment. Residents were moved to lower levels of the building as firemen quickly brought the fire under control. 02/07/2010 Ellwood City Downtown Snow Removal
Ellwood City closed Lawrence Avenue in the downtown area Sunday to facilitate the removal of snow. The street department, along with the aid of the electric, sewer and public works departments, loaded up dump trucks and hauled the snow to a nearby empty lot. Crews continue to work on other major arteries in the borough. (1:20)

Beaver Falls - Fire severely damages a boarding / personal care home in the city early this afternoon. Three residents and the operator escaped the fire and were not injured.The home, located at 710 third avenue, has been in operation since 1989 according to the owner, Catherine Ameen. More later.

01/30/10 Hopewell - PU Travels Over 200 Foot Embankment

Two teenagers were injured in a single vehicle accident in Hopewell Township, Beaver County late Saturday afternoon. The pickup truck, traveling north on Interstate 376, crossed over the medial, went through a guardrail and over a 200 foot embankment, landing on its side.

01/30/10 Hanover Twp Fire Damages Beaver Co Home

The fire in a single-story, wood-frame home located along Route 30, was difficult to fight and took nearly one hour to bring under control. 01/27/2010 Homicide Suspect Apprehended in New Castle
New Castle - A standoff lasting nearly four hours between police and a man suspected of homicide in a recent Sharon shooting, ended after police forced their way in to an apartment in Westview Terrace around 10 p.m. The suspect was injured and was removed from the scene by Medevac Ambulance. New Castle Police at the scene refused comment and deferred questions to Sharon City Police who are handling the investigation.

01/16/10 Woman Drives Car on to Chicora Train Trestle
A Petrolia woman made a wrong turn early this morning on to the railroad tracks in Chicora, Butler County. Her car became lodged on a trestle which runs over Central Ave. Around noon today, crews arrived to remove the vehicle from the trestle which took nearly three hours. She was arrested by Butler State Police for suspicion of drunken driving.

01/15/10 Basement Fire in Mahoning Township

Shortly after 9:30 this morning, firemen were called to a basement fire in a home on Zoccoli Road in Mahoning Township. Police on the scene first reported heavy smoke coming coming from the basement area of a two-story frame home. Firemen had to lay hose over 3000 feet to get water to the scene and save the home from serious damage.

01/14/10 Head-on Crash on Route 422 Injures Man

One man was flown by medical-helicopter to a Youngstown hospital after a 2-vehicle head-on crash on Route 422 in Shenango Township. The accident occured shortly before 4 p.m. just west of Route 388. The victim was trapped for a short time and extricated by members of the Shenango and Slippery Rock fire departments. The driver of the second vehicle suffered a cut hand and was ambulatory at the scene.

Long Avenue Home Destroyed by Fire in New Castle
Fire destroys a New Castle home around noon today. The fire at 612 East Long Avenue was fully engulfed with flames when firemen arrived. The couple and their two children who lived there were not at home when the fire broke out. The fire chief says his men found the back door open when they arrived.

01/10/2010 Slippery Rock Township Mobile Home Fire
A Slippery Rock Township man loses his mobile home to a fire shortly after 6:30 this evening. The home, located at 1096 Mill Bridge Road, was severely damaged to the extent it will probably be called a total loss. The American Red Cross is helping the victim with food, clothing and lodging The fire rekindled about 10:45 p.m. and firemen returned to the scene once more. A heat lamp being used to keep water lines from freezing is being looked at as a possible cause for the fire.

01/01/2010  Two men escape but their cat dies in an afternoon fire on Lawrence Lane near Enon Valley. Chuck Lawrence, who has lived there all his life with his son, lost all his possessions in a fire that was difficult to fight.
