12/31/11 Power Wires Cut at Former School in Pulaski Township
12/31/11 Pulaski Township Police and Firemen were called to the former New Bedford Elementary School on School House Road to investigate an attempted theft of copper wires early today. A large set of bolt cutters were found fused to electrical conductors inside an electrical box. Police theorize the individual cutting the wires may have been shocked or even injured by the arc which occurred when the wires were cut. If you have any information on this incident, you are urged to call the Pulaski Township Police Department.

12/301/11 Bar Owner Gunned Down in Farrell
12/30/11 A local bar owner was gunned down in front of his own bar late this evening in Farrell, Pennsylvania. 58 year-old William "Billy" Basilone of Farrell, owner of Basilone’s Bar on Roemer Blvd., was rushed to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after being shot at least six times around 11:30 pm. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Southwest Mercer County Regional Police have released little information on the incident and family members have declined to comment. This incident may be related to other recent armed robberies in the area.

12/28/11 Hickory Township State Road Accident
12/28/11 A woman crashes her car over an embankment on State Road in Hickory Twp. around noon today. 48 year-old Margaret A. Schooley of Volant was taken by Noga Ambulance to Grove City Hospital with unknown injuries. She was trapped for nearly a half hour before members of the Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Department were able to extricate her. New Castle State Police continue to look into the cause of the accident.

12/23/11 Shenango Twp Union Valley Road 2- Vehicle Accident
12/23/11 Five people injured, three of them children, in a two vehicle accident on Union Valley Road in Shenango Township around 5:30 pm. A woman and a 11 year-old girl were air-lifted to hospitals in Youngstown and Pittsburgh. A man and two children in the other car were taken to Ellwood City Hospital. Shenango Twp. Police are investigating the cause of the accident

12/20/11 Fire Completely Destroys Shad Hannas Cafe, This Time

12/17/11 Beaver Falls Water Main Break
12/17/11 A 16 inch water main serving parts of Beaver County ruptured around 2 a.m. this morning causing a water conservation order to be issued. According to Jim Riggio, General Manager of the the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority, the break was expected to be repaired by the middle of the afternoon.  Customers were expected not to have any disruptions in water service due to water storage tanks that provided backup during the repair.

12/16/11 Union Township Fatal Accident on Old Youngstown Road
12/16/11 One man is killed and two woman seriously injured in a one car accident early this morning on Old Youngstown Road in Union Township. According to Union Township Fire Chief Steve Stasko, the passenger vehicle slammed broadside into a tree around 2AM. The 30 year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Russel Noga, Jr. One woman was ejected from the vehicle and the other was trapped for a short time. They were both flown by medical helicopters to undetermined hospitals. Union Twp. Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.

12/15-16/11 Union Twp Shooting and New Castle Stand-Off
12/15/11 Three people were injured, two critically, after a home invasion in Union Township on Sunny Avenue around 10 PM this evening. Two of the victims who suffered gun shot wounds were transferred by medical helicopter from Jameson Hospital to an undetermined trauma center. The following day, State Police in New Castle apprehended two suspects from Detroit, Michigan after a stand off at a home at 1208 Pollock Ave. on New Castle’s south side. (The date, December 17 superimposed on the video is incorrect and should have been December 16)

12/04/11 Three Family Members Flown After New Castle House Fire
12/04/11 A 19 year-old mother and her two sons were injured in a Sunday morning house fire on Ray Street in the city of New Castle. Firemen found the family standing on the street after they arrived to see smoke coming from a second floor bedroom. All three victims were taken by ambulance to Jameson Hospital and then transferred to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. A neighbor tried to save the family dog but was forced back by the smoke and flames.

11/01/11 Man Escapes Injury in Train-Car Crash
11/01/11 A Canfield, Ohio man considers himself lucky this morning after he wasn’t injured in a train-car crash that totaled his car at the Montgomery Ave. Crossing in Mahoningtown, New Castle. Lee Turner’s car became disabled on the tracks around 5:40 this morning and he was able to get out and call 911 just before a 60 car freight train crashed into it.

10/30/11 Mahoning Twp Mobile Home Destroyed By Fire
10/30/11 A mother and two children escaped the fire that destroyed their mobile home early this afternoon. Tracey McWilliams and her children, Christian, age 4 and Taylor Lynn, age 2, escaped their burning home only to see it completely consumed by fire. Husband and father, Wade McWilliams, ran from a neighbor’s home after hearing his wife screaming. Another child, 6 year-old Ryan, was away visiting his grandmother. Mahoning Fire Chief Francis "Poncho" Exposito said the fire began in the furnace area of the home. McWilliams said he had no insurance on the home and expected that his family would stay with his wife’s relatives.

10/13/11 Man Dies After Hitting Fallen Tree in S. Beaver

10/13/11 One man is dead after crashing his truck into a fallen tree in South Beaver Township. Several other vehicles were involved but no other injuries were reported.

10/01/11 Car Crashes Into Garage in Ellwood City and Catches Fire
10/01/11 A 19 year-old Ellwood City man escaped injury after falling asleep and crashing his Blazer into a garage which caught fire. The accident happened at 1091 Woodside Ave. in Ellwood City around noon today and closed the highway for several hours. 3 ATVs, a motorcycle and a new truck in the garage were completely destroyed. 09/24/11 Wayne Twp Fatal Ax Car On Tracks

09/24/11 Around 9 o’clock this morning, emergency personnel were called to an accident at 1805 Wampum Road in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. The scanner report said a vehicle had over turned on the railroad track, with a male trapped underneath. When emergency personnel arrived, they did indeed find a male trapped underneath and deceased. The coroner was called. The accident happened on the bend known as "The Horseshoe Curve" . According to State Police at the scene, a vehicle, Honda two-door, traveling towards Wampum failed to negotiate the bend, traveled off the roadway, struck a mail box, went up a bank, overturned and ended up on the tracks. State Police say that the male was 19 years-old and that the accident happened over night, possibly in the early morning hours. Traffic was alternately routed on to one lane to pass the emergency vehicles parked on the road way.

09/18/11 Another Suspicious Fire in Shenango Township
09/18/11 A fire that broke out shortly after 3 am this morning destroyed a vacant home in the 300 block of Sycamore Street in Shenango Township. When firemen arrived, they found the two-story wood-frame home completely in flames. Two homes nearby escaped serious damage from the fire due to firemen’s efforts to protect them. This is the third suspicious fire in that area of Shenango Township in the past two weeks. The state fire marshal was once again called to investigate the fire.

09/15/11 Serious Four-Vehicle Accident In Front Of Clearview Mall
09/15/11 Two people were flown by medical helicopters and three others transferred by ground ambulance after a four-vehicle accident in front of the Clearview Mall around 4 pm. State Police say a fifth vehicle that left the scene may be responsible for causing the accident. One tri-axial dump truck hit a car, forced it into a guardrail and trapped a woman for about an hour. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

09/15/11 Shenango Crash Ends With Car Slamming Into Church

09/13/11 One Man is Dead After Shooting At Crestview Gardens
09/13/11 A man who tried to intervene in a fight between family members, lost his  life when someone in the crowd fired a shot and hit him in the head. The shooting, which occurred just before 9:30 pm, is one of many that have taken place recently in the city of New Castle. The victim was flown by medical helicopter to a Youngstown hospital and died a short time later. Police do not yet have anyone in custody but have some leads that they are following. There were reports of another shot being fired during a commotion after the victim was transferred from the scene by Noga Ambulance.

09/11/11 Man Fell From Tree in North Beaver Township
09/11/11 A man trimming a tree branch fell over 15 feet to the ground suffering serious injuries. Members of the North Beaver Fire Department and Noga Ambulance personnel responded to the scene along Mt. Jackson Road in North Beaver Township. STAT MedEvac medical helicopter met the ambulance at the North Beaver Township ballfield and flew the victim to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. His condition was not immediately known.

09/10/11 One Man is Dead in Slippery Rock Car/Semi-Truck Crash
09/10/11 One man is dead and several others escape serious injuries when the car they were riding in failed to stop at the Branchton Road intersection on Route 8 near Slippery Rock. A northbound tractor trailer was hit by the car causing several occupants to be ejected. The truck driver was not hurt. The road was closed for several hours during the investigation conducted by Butler State Police.

09/08/11 Shenango Big Run Creek Road Mobile Home Fire
09/08/11 Shortly after 9:30 pm, Shenango VFD responded to a mobile home fire on Big Run Creek Road off of Pennsylvania Avenue. A neighbor informed the firemen that the trailer was unoccupied but a large number of propane tanks were in the nearby garage. The trailer was pretty much "on the ground" and considered a total loss when firemen arrived. Efforts were eventually diverted to "hosing down" the garage to keep it from catching fire and causing a potentially explosive situation.

09/07/11 PSP Press Conference Concerning Assaults at Auction
09/07/11 PSP New Castle is investigating the assaults of three juvenile females outside an auction barn in Wilmington Township late Friday evening. Police are trying to confirm the identities of the five Amish men believed to be involved. Their ages range from 18 to 25. The assaults ocurred outside the auction building around 11 pm while their parents were inside conducting business.

09/06/11 Farrell Two-Vehicle Accident
09/06/11 A man who reportedly had a seizure while driving his pickup truck on Sharon-New Castle Road crashed into a utility pole and a passenger vehicle near Mary Street. Two people in the passenger vehicle escaped injury.

9/04/11 Man Shot on Pin Oak Drive in Crestview Gardens
9/04/11 A man was reportedly shot in the leg in an apartment on Pin Oak Drive in New Castle around 2 o’clock this afternoon. Our crew arrived on the scene to find that the victim had already been placed into the ambulance. Police quickly secured the scene with crime tape.

09/03/11 Car Bursts Into Flames After Crash in Hickory Township

09/03/11 Heat Affects Runners at Westminster College
09/03/11 As many as six victims attending a track meet at Westminster College in New Wilmington today were transported to local hospitals after suffering heat-related injuries. Many more were treated at the scene. It was reported that the running event began in late morning and was not completed due to several participants not be able to finish because of the heat.

09/02/11 Car Crashes Over Hill in Union Township
09/02/11 A man traveling on Winter Road in Union Township failed to stop at the "T" intersection with W. Washington Street. He then crashed over a guardrail and plunged approximately 400 feet down an embankment. People nearby heard the crash around 6 p.m. but the victim and car were not discovered for nearly 2 hours. Union Twp. VFD rescuers used a stokes basket and ropes to bring the victim up the embankment. Police say the man appeared to be disoriented and was transferred to Jameson Hospital for evaluation.

9/01/11 Several Fires Caused By Lightning in Tri-County Area
9/01/11 Numerous structures were hit by lightning during storms today in Western Pennsylvania. Some strikes caused no damage while others such as a home in Butler County suffered nearly a $500,000 loss. A horse found near a barn that was struck by lightning was found laying unresponsive on the ground but eventually recovered. 08/31/11 New Castle Police Car Involved in Downtown Accident
08/31 A New Castle Police officer in route to an auto accident on Cascade Street became involved in his own accident when the cruiser he was operating struck a car making a left hand turn on Mercer Street. According to witnesses, the officer’s vehicle had lights and siren operating as he attempted to pass the south bound passenger vehicle near the Capitol Grill. According to New Castle State Police, the officer, David Maiella, age 30 of New Castle suffered a minor neck injury and taken to Jameson Hospital. The driver of the passenger vehicle, 28 year-old Dorothy S. Myers, also suffered a minor neck injury and was taken to Jameson Hospital. Two young children who were in car seats in the Myers vehicle were not injured. They were taken by their father in a private vehicle also to Jameson Hospital. It is not known if any of the drivers involved will be sited in the crash.

08/30/11 Man Found Shot In the Middle of a New Castle Street
08/30/11 One man, who suffered a gunshot wound, was found lying in the middle of Williams Street in the City of New Castle around 10:15 this evening. He was in very grave condition as emergency personnel transported him on a gurney to an awaiting Noga Ambulance. No other details are currently available.

08/29/11 Two Men Found Dead in Butler City Home

8/27/11 Truck Rolls Over Spilling Tar on Hermitage Street
08/27/11 A truck carrying a non-hazardous water-based tar used as a driveway sealer, rolled over and spilled part of its load onto E. State in Hermitage around 7:30 am this morning. The accident happened at the intersection of Kerrwood Avenue near Kraynak’s. The tar traveled down E. State Street for several hundred feet, approaching a storm drain. Quick work by Hermitage Police, fire and haz-mat workers using boons and oil-dry, kept most of the tar from entering the drain. Both west bound lanes of E. State Street were closed while workers cleaned up the spill. The driver of the truck was not injured.

08/26/11 Father-Daughter Die in Mercer County I-79 Accident
08/26/11 A father and 22 month-old daughter die in a two-vehicle collision on I-79 in Springfield Township, Mercer County, early this evening. Troy Hallam and daughter Hailey were killed when their vehicle went over the embankment and struck a tree near the 111 mile marker of Interstate 79. Hallam’s wife, Jennifer, is in a Youngstown Hospital. The family recently moved to the Pittsburgh area. Two people in the other vehicle that ended up in the median were not injured. Mercer State Police are continuing their investigation.

08/25/11 Man Flown After Car vs Truck Accident in Beaver Falls

08/24/11 Reported Shooting Near New Castle High School
8/24/11 A reported shooting occurred shortly before 8 a.m. on East Street in an apartment located across from the New Castle High School. Students had not yet reported to school for the new school year. New Castle Police, Noga Ambulance Service and New Castle Fire Department reported to the scene. Medical personnel brought a gurney to the apartment but no one was immediately removed.

08/19/11 Wolf Creek Home Catches Fire After Lightning Strike
08/19/11 A lightning strike caused a home to catch fire in Mercer County this afternoon around 1:30. The home located along E. Gilmore Road in Wolf Creek Township suffered serious damage to the second division attic area. Pine Township Fire Chief Chris Holmes talked to KDSTV about the incident. 

08/09/11 Victims Escape Serious Injury in ACTS Bus / SUV Crash
08/09/11 A morning crash between a passenger vehicle and a Lawrence County ACTS bus in Slippery Rock Township, sends several people to the hospital with minor injuries. The accident occurred as the bus was backing onto Frew Mill Road after picking up a special needs child going to a camp outing. Check out the preview and also the complete video.

8/01/11 Decomposing Body Found on New Castles South Side
8/01/11 A decomposing body was found in an apartment located at 329 E. Long Ave. in the city of New Castle late this afternoon. New Castle Police, Noga Ambulance personnel, NCFD and the assistant coroner were called to the scene. Because of the strong odor coming from the building, New Castle Fire Department provided air tanks and protective gear to Noga Ambulance personnel so they could remove the body. It is expected that the body had been there for some time even though there were reports of someone else living in the building. "Emergency Personnel" can log in to see the full video.

8/01/11 Leesburg Station Road Double-Wide Home Fire
08/01/11 Fire broke out in a double-wide modular home on Leesburg Station Road in Springfield Township, Mercer County, shortly after 1 am this morning. According to Steve Rea, Springfield Township Fire Chief, the fire broke out in a bedroom and spread to the attic, destroying the home. A woman and a 14 year-old boy escaped the fire but it is believed their dog did not make it out. The fire marshal was called to investigate the fire. Full video available for emergency personnel. 07/14/11 Route 68 Daugherty Township Fatal Accident
07/14/11 One person is dead and at least one other was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital after an accident on Route 68 in Daugherty Township, Beaver County. The apparent head-on crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. and closed the highway for several hours. New Brighton Police are investigating the accident.

06/29/11 Familys Van Rolls Over in Shenango Township

07/11/11 Anthony D. Lombardo, age 36, died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh from injuries he received in a rollover crash in Shenango Township on June 29, 2011. Lombardo and his wife, Brandi, both in critical condition, were flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Most of the Lombardo’s six children were not seriously injured in the accident. 07/09/11 Girl Hit By Truck After Fireworks Festival in NC
07/09/11 A teenager reportedly was struck by a pickup truck on Taylor Street in the city of New Castle around 10:30 p.m. The accident occurred just at the conclusion of the New Castle Fireworks Festival during which time a large amount of traffic was leaving the city. A huge crowd which had gathered on a wall next to the CVS pharmacy to watch fireworks also became witness to a horrific tragedy that unfolded just in front of them. The victim who is believed to be a 19 year-old woman, was screaming in pain as she laid on the roadway while medical personnel attended to her. Noga Ambulance Service transferred the victim to the heliport at Jameson Hospital where she was then taken by medical helicopter to a nearby trauma center. We are waiting to hear if any charges will be filed in this incident.

07/09/11 SUV Rolls Over on I-79 in Worth Township
07/09/11 A family’s water skiing outing to Edinboro was cut short when their SUV rolled over on I-79 just north of the 101 mile-marker Saturday afternoon. A eleven year old female was transferred by a medical helicopter to children’s hospital in Pittsburgh. The father, who was the driver, was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. Three other children were not seriously injured. Family members were at the scene to remove personal belongings from the vehicle before it was towed. The driver told state police he was changing lanes and was surprised by a vehicle next to him and swerved quickly, losing control. One lane was open northbound until the medical helicopter landed, closing both lanes. The southbound lanes were not affected.

07/05/11 Grove City Cooper Industrial Commons Fire
Around noon today, fire broke out at a warehouse facility on Lincoln Avenue in Grove City., just a few blocks from the college. It is being referred to as the old Cooper-Bessemer plant. It is now believed to be known as the Cooper Industrial Commons. A business occupying the area where the fire was is known as PA Equipment. After arriving on the scene within a half hour after the fire was called out, almost no smoke was visible. There was a tremendous amount of fire power called to the scene because the enormity of the structure. Additional crews were called so that the crews that fought the fire could be rotated because of the high temperatures and humidty.

07/02/11 Kitchen Fire Quickly Doused By New Castle Firemen
07/02/11 Fire began shortly after 11 a.m. in a kitchen on the third floor of an apartment building at 409 E. Leisure Avenue in the city of New Castle. One male received some smoke inhalation trying to put out the fire and several others were evacuated from the building. New Castle firemen quickly put out the fire and saved the building from serious damage.

06/22/11 Crash on Rt. 422 By-Pass Injures Elderly Couple
06/22/11 An elderly couple is seriously injured after their vehicle was struck by a dump truck on the Route 422 By-Pass in Taylor Township, Lawrence County. According to State Police, the victim’s vehicle failed to stop for a temporary stop sign in the construction area near the entrance to the bridge over the Shenango River. The victims who were trapped in their vehicle for nearly an hour, were transported by two medical helicopters that landed on the bridge surface. New Castle State Police are investigating. 06/16/11 Mahoning Police Chase Ends With New Castle Crash

06/15/11 LaGrotta Begins Serving a Minimum 3 Month Sentence
06/15/11 Frank LaGrotta began serving his minimum three months jail sentence today after his sentencing  hearing at the Lawrence County Government Center concluded this morning. LaGrotta, a former state representative, was found guilty earlier this year of altering prescriptions to obtain drugs. The hearing which began Monday, ended early after LaGrotta became ill and had to be taken to the Ellwood City Hospital. The hearing concluded today after visiting Judge Eugene Fike advised LaGrotta of his post-sentencing rights. After the hearing,  KDSTV’s Joe Sobczak spoke with LaGrotta’s attorney, Stephen Colafella of Beaver.

06/11/11 Man Flown After North Sewickley Motorcycle Accident
06/11/11 One man was flown by medical helicopter after crashing his motorcycle on Route 288 on the 4 lane highway in North Sewickley Township near Ellwood City. The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. and is being investigated by Ellwood City Police. No other details are yet available.

05/11/11 Fire on Citys South Side Destroys Vacant House
06/11/11 Fire broke out at a vacant wood frame house on the city’s south side around 9:30 this evening. The house is a total loss and the city’s fire marshal is looking into the cause of the fire.

06/09/11 Woman Flown by Medical Helicopter After Crash
06/09/11 An over night crash in Wayne Township sends one woman by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. 47 year-old Kim Cody of Ellwood City who was not wearing a seatbelt, was critically injured when her car struck a utility pole and over turned on Route 65 just north of Ellwood City. The victim was trapped for nearly a half-hour and had to be extricated by members of the Wayne Township and Ellwood City Fire Departments. New Castle State Police are investigating the accident.

06/05/11 North Sewickley Fatal Motorcycle Accident

06/03/11 Fire Contained At Worsleys Furniture in Butler

06/03/11 Fire broke out in the second floor storage area at Worsley’s Furniture Store on Main Street in Butler shortly after 9 o’clock this morning. Tenants from nearby apartments were evacuated and the fire was quickly brought under control. Main Street was closed for about an hour and a half while Butler City Firemen mopped up the scene.

 

 


06/02/11 Butler City Ridge Avenue House Fire
06/02/11 Butler City Firemen along with several mutual aid companies prevented a house from completely being destroyed by fire on Ridge Avenue in Butler City. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was assisting the family who lived there.

05/29/11 North Sewickley Fatal Fire on Longvue Drive
05/29/11 19 year-old Joseph Valentino of Longvue Drive, North Sewickley, was killed in a house fire early this morning. According to assistant fire chief David Namola, flames were shooting  out of all the windows of the modular home when firemen arrived. After the fire was extinguished, Valentino’s body was found under debris in the hallway. His mother, who also lived there, was not at home at the time of the fire.

05/29/11 Car vs Utility Pole / Man Trapped in Overturned Vehicle
05/29/11 An out of control car takes down a utility pole and then over turns, trapping the driver inside. The accident occurring around two o’clock, closed down Leesburg-Volant Road  near the intersection of Perry Highway (Route 19). The driver was trapped for nearly an hour as rescuers had to dodge power wires that were still energized. The man was flown by medical helicopter to a Youngstown Hospital. Firemen searched nearby for additional victims but none were found.

05/27/11 Firemen Save Home at Gas Light Mobile Home Park
05/27/11 Firemen quickly extinguished a mobile home fire by deploying the FIT-5 fire extinguisher device that helped knock down the flames. Jack Hitchen, Scott Township Fire Chief who was one of the first firemen on the scene, threw the device into the home around 10:30 this morning, knocking down the flames. Hickory Township firemen soon arrived on the scene to continue the knockdown. A man and woman who were home at the time were not injured.

05/26/11 Four Injured in Pulaski Twp On Route 422
05/26/11 Four people were injured in a three vehicle crash in front of the New Castle School of Trades this evening around 5:30.  An eastbound Jeep Cherokee that attempted to turn into the NCST was hit by a westbound Ford pickup truck which then crashed into a parked semi-truck belonging to the NCST. Shenango Township Police arrested Justin Wayne Spencer, 28, of 530 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA in the attempted strangulation and rape of a 21 year old white female on 05/21/2011 at 0400 hours. Both subjects were serving a weekend duty at the Army National Guard Unit at 820 Frank Avenue, New Castle, PA.

05/19/11 A tractor-trailer making a delivery to King’s Chrysler Dealership in Neshannock Township early this morning caused a fire that destroyed the body shop at the rear of the building.. The truck knocked down a utility pole and electrical wires causing  the building to catch fire around 4 a.m. A block wall between the body shop and the rest of the business helped contained the fire. No one was injured as the result of the accident or fire. .

05/14/11 New Castle Duquesne Street Vacant House Fire
05/14/11  A vacant home on Duquesne Street in New Castle was destroyed by fire late this evening. Firemen arriving on the scene around 11:30 pm found the two-story wood frame house fully engulfed with flames. Firemen had to return Sunday morning to extinguish the fire again after it had rekindled around 10 am. The fire marshal was called to investigate the suspicious fire.

05/12/11 Lawrence County - A home in New Beaver Boro goes up in flames after a motorcycle in an attached garage catches fire. The home on Elm Lane, just acquired a few months ago by a local couple, will probably be declared a total loss. The eleven year old golden retriever in the home at the time of the fire, also escaped. 05/10/11 An 18 year-old man was killed early this evening in a motorcycle vs minivan accident on Route 108 in Scott Township. The accident occurred when the van pulled from Heckathorne Road into the path of the motorcycle. The roadway was closed till 12:30 a.m. while the Butler State Police reconstruction team conducted their investigation.

05/07/11 Sandy Lake Road Mercer County House Fire
05/07/11 A home, which was recently converted from an old restaurant, was destroyed by fire yesterday evening around six p.m. Several men at a nearby farm implement business, saw smoke coming from the home and rushed to the scene. A 3 and 4 year-old were inside and rescued by one of the men. The winds fanned the flames which had already begun to consume the home by time fireman arrived. Most of the contents were also destroyed.

05/05/11 Domestic Incident in Volant Closes Shaw Road

 05/05/11 Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, Volant Fire Department personnel were called by State Police to block off both ends of Shaw Road in Washington Township, Lawrence County. Shaw road runs between Route 208 and Route 19, just northeast of Volant. Dozens of state police vehicles were seen entering and exiting the road block at the Route 208 end. A Pittsburgh news helicopter hovered above the scene Police and firemen at the roadblock were not releasing any details of the incident. It is believed to be some type of SWAT situation involving the State Police S.E.R.T unit at a residence along Shaw Road. .

05/01/11 A search for a missing fisherman at McConnell’s Mill State Park in Lawrence County was called off early this afternoon after several search dogs found a scent of something in the water near the triple drop section of the Slippery Rock Creek. A water rescue instructor/trainer who is with the Unionville Fire Department and in charge of the search, deemed the river too treacherous to put divers in to the water to search for the victim. 04/30/11 McConnells Mill State Park Possible Drowning
04/30/11  One man is missing and presumed dead after falling into the Slippery Rock Creek at McConnell’s Mill State Park early this morning. The 38 year-old man from the Pittsburgh area was fishing near the covered bridge by the mill when the accident occured. Rescue personnel set up watch areas on several bridges downstream and searched along the banks of the river. The search was called off in the evening and is expected to resume at 8 a.m. The complete video for "emergency personnel" will be available in a few days.

A vehicle being pursued by New Castle City Police crashes into another vehicle and then into a fence at the home of Ron Linton of 411 N. Shenango Street. 04/15/11 A woman driver sideswipes a van parked on Croton Avenue in New Castle and then leaves the scene. Witnesses say she then hit a utility pole and then traveled into Hickory Township on Eastbrook Road and finally crashing into a building at Rich and Freed’s Auto Parts. 04/07/11 Out of Control Car Crashes Into Parked Truck
04/07/11 A passenger vehicle traveling on Route 51 in Darlington Township, Beaver County, left the roadway and struck a parked pickup truck in the parking lot of an auto repair garage. The driver was unresponsive and was given CPR by a passing motorist who had stopped to help. Darlington Twp. Police say the vehicle scraped the guardrail for some distance before the hitting the truck. No one else was injured.

03/29/11 A two-vehicle accident in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, sends three people to the hospital. Three adults and two female juveniles were injured when a car ran a stop sign and collided with a suv. Two victims, a 35 year-old woman and a female juvenile were flown to trama centers by medical helicopter. Two others, a man and woman in the other car, were treated at the scene but not transferred by ambulance.

03/28/11 Elderly Man Crashes Car on Ellwood-Wampum Road
03/28/11 A crash on Ellwood-Wampum Road around 9:30 this morning sends a 75 year-old man to the hospital. A witness tells KDSTV that he was following the victim as he failed to negotiate a curve near the Elwood-Wampum Rod & Gun Club. The man was conscious but bleeding from the head and was expected to be flown by medical helicopter. State Police tell us that the victim may have suffered some type of medical condition before the accident.

03/26/11 Dog Escapes Barn Fire in North Sewickley
03/26/11 An early morning fire in North Sewickley destroys a barn and its contents. James Donnelly of Hickory Drive told us his German Shepard was inside but escaped the flames. Donnelly said that he used an electric heater to provide warmth for the dog and that could possibly be the origin of the fire. The barn was used to house equipment for Donnelly’s remodeling business.

03/23/11 Elderly Couple Loses New Home To Fire
03/23/11  Charles and Gwen Wood, both 86, went out to lunch only to come back and find their new home destroyed by fire. They just recently moved in on Monday to their new townhouse in Chestnut Grove in Franklin Township, Butler County. Two other residents in the four unit townhouse were alerted to the fire by workers in the area and escaped injury. The state fire marshal was on the scene but had not yet ruled on a cause. 03/21/11 Home Vacated in January Is Target of Suspicious Fire
03/21/11 A home vacated in January on Old Butler Road in Slippery Rock Township erupted in flames late this morning. Shenango Township firefighters were first on the scene to see smoke coming from the basement area. A garage door was forced open by firemen to gain access to the fire. The fire appeared suspicious and the State Police Fire Marshal was called. Fire damage was confined to the basement which had multiple rooms and proved to be a challenge to firefighters.

03/19/11 Two Elderly Woman Hit By Out Of Control Car
03/19/11 Two elderly women just leaving church shortly before five o’clock Saturday evening, were hit by an out of control car near the Beaver Falls Plaza. At least one of the women was unconscious and both had to be flown by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh. The driver of the car that hit them may have blacked out before the accident.

03/18/11 Fallen Tree Destroys Butler County Home
03/18/11 An old  tree on a steep hillside fell into a home in Center Township, Butler County early this morning. Terry Steffy of Oneida Valley Road left for work around 6:30 a.m. only to be informed around 9 o’clock that a tree crashed into his house. The three and a half foot diameter oak tree smashed through the roof and caused major damage to the home which eventually was condemned. Three cats and a German Shepard canine that were in the basement escaped injury. The tree was expected to be removed later today and tarps installed to protect the remainder of the home.

03/15/11 Man Dies in Darlington Twp. Train-Car Accident
One man is killed when he walked into the path of a train in Darlington Township, Beaver County. Deputy coroner, William Pasquale, Jr. identified the victim as a 61 year-old man from Poland, Ohio. The victim’s car was found parked on the roadway next to the tracks.

03/11/11 Police Raid Suspected Ellwood City Meth Lab
03-11-11 Ellwood City Police and the Lawrence County Drug Task Force along with State Police raided a suspected meth lab in a home on Ninth Street in Ellwood City around 4 o’clock this afternoon. Three men and one woman were taken into custody after a meth lab was found behind a fake wall in the home. Two children, ages four and five, were taken into custody by Children and Youth Services.

03/05/11 Man Killed in Butler County Accident Near N. Washington
03/05/11 A man loses his life as his car overturns and partially ejects him. The accident occurred on Old Brick Road near Peaceful Valley Road in Washington Township shortly before 2 a.m. this morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Butler County Coroner’s office. Butler County State Police continue to investigate the accident and look into the possibility that alcohol may have been involved. North Washington Fire Department assisted at the scene.

03/02/11 Mercer County Fatal ATV Accident
03/02/11  A Mercer County man was killed early this morning in an ATV accident in Wolf Creek Township. The man, in his early forties, was found next to his ATV in a drainage ditch along E. Gilmore Road shortly before 1 a.m. State police say the man was riding in a field next to the roadway when he lost control and the ATV then flipped over. They also say the man lived nearby.

03/02/11 County Worker Falls Into Hermitage Creek

03/02/11 A Mercer County worker falls down an embankment and into a creek while trimming brush along Sample Road in Hermitage. The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. The victim had to be rescued by members of the Hermitage Fire Department and was flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center.


03/01/11 Gas Leak in Shenango Causes Evacuations
03/01/11 A mother and daughter escape serious injuries in an auto accident on Savannah Road in Shenango Township around 5 p.m. today. A utility pole was damaged and a gas meter was sheared releasing gas into the air. Rescue workers used self contained breathing apparatus to be able to access the broken gas line and cap it.

02/25/11 Woman Killed in Mahoning Township Accident
An early morning accident claims the life of a woman in a two vehicle accident on Route 422 in Mahoning Township. The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when the woman lost control of her vehicle and was hit broadside by an SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the SUV was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

02/13/11 Old Skating Rink Building Collapses in Mercer County
02/13/11 Accumulation of snow on a roof appears to be the cause of a building collapse in Pine Township, Mercer County. The vacant building, which once housed a skating rink just a few years ago, came crashing down around 9 p.m. Nearby neighbors said it sounded like an explosion. No injuries were reported.

02/12/11 Ellwood City Toddler Found on City Street

02/12/11 Ellwood City Police were called to Fifth Street near Lawrence Avenue after a driver reported almost hitting a two year old toddler who was in the turning lanes. His father eventually came to the police station about an hour and a half later to report him missing. CYS took the child into custody and charges are expected to be filed against the father on Monday.


02/09/11 Stolen Car Found in Mahoning Twp. Quarry
02/09/11  There were some anxious moments in a Mahoning Township quarry earlier this evening when a hunter reported seeing a car in the water after it had gone over a ninety foot cliff. Firemen, police, EMS and divers responded to the E. Main St. quarry near Hillsville to find no one inside the vehicle. It was learned that the car had been stolen earlier from a local business.

02/07/11 Woman Injured in Edinburg Domestic Stabbing
02/07/11  An early morning domestic argument sends an Edinburg woman to a Pittsburgh hospital after she was stabbed by her husband. The incident occurred at 177 Green Lane at the Green Meadows Trailer Court in Mahoning Township. The man is under going a mental evaluation at Jameson Hospital, South Campus and is expected to be charged by PSP when released from that facility.

02/03/11 Car Crashes Into Garage During Police Chase

02/03/11   Around 3:30 p.m.  today, police were pursuing an older Cadillac on Pennsylvania Ave. in the City of New Castle for an unknown reason. The pursuit ended in Shenango Township off Pennsylvania Ave. when the driver of the Cadillac failed to negotiate a sharp bend near Berger Street and continued into a garage after crashing through the wall.


02/01/11 Springfield Township Mercer County Truck vs Pole

02/01/11 One man is seriously injured in a one vehicle accident in Springfield Township, Mercer County. The accident occurred around 11 a.m. on Leesburg-Volant Road (Route 208) when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and broadsided a utility pole. The victim was trapped for a short while and was extricated by emergency crews from Springfield and Volant fire departments. He was taken to Grove City Hospital by Superior Ambulance and Mercer State Police are investigating.


01/31/11 Chewton Bridge Fatal Accident in Wayne Twp
01/31/11 An eighty-one year-old Wampum woman was killed this afternoon in a one vehicle accident on the Chewton Bridge in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. Caroline A. Scala of 188 Canal Street, Wampum, was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner, Russell Noga. State Police say the victim lost control while rounding a bend on the bridge, struck the right bridge wall and crossed over to the left lane crashing into a metal bridge girder. The cause of death has not yet determined.

01/27/11 Man Flown After Beaver Falls Shooting
01/27/11 A man was flown by medical helicopter after a reported shooting on 22nd Street in the City of Beaver Falls around midnight. The incident occurred between Seventh and Eighth Avenues near a parked semi-truck. No other information is currently available.

01/27/11 Out of Control Truck Damages Mr.Bs Restaurant
01/27/11 Shenango Township Police are trying to determine exactly how a tractor-trailer took down wires and damaged Mr.B’s Restaurant on E. Washington Street early this morning. Shortly after 6:30 am, emergency services were called to the business located at 2034 E. Washington Street to find that a corner of Mr.B’s building had been damaged and a semi-truck behind a home. The driver who tried to avoid our camera, was apparently not hurt. Penn Power workers arrived on the scene about 25 minutes after the accident and Shenango Fire Department then went back into service.

01/27/11 Fire Destroys 3-Car Garage in New Castle

01/27/11 Fire destroyed a Beckford Street 3-car garage around midnight in the city of New Castle. Firemen arrived to find the garage fully involved and flames shooting high in the sky. Only vehicle inside was a motorized scooter belonging to a disabled man. After putting out the fire and returning to the station, firemen were called out again when the fire rekindled around 2 a.m.

 

 


01/24/11 Fire Damages House in Little Beaver Township
01/24/11 A family arrives home to find flames coming from the chimney area of their wood-frame home. Enon Valley firemen arrived on the scene of a working structure fire and acted quickly to save the home from more serious damage. The fire started in the area of a wood-burning stove and worked its way up the wall, into the attic and through the roof.

01/21/11 6 Year Old Boy Hit By Out Of Control Car
01/21/11 A young boy waiting for a school bus suffered serious injuries when hit by an out of control car on South Mill Street shortly before 11 a.m. this morning. A woman waiting with the child suffered minor injuries and two others escaped being hit. The driver, Samuel Abraham, was taken into custody and given a blood-alcohol test. The child was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital by ground ambulance after it was known that medical helicopters could not fly because of the weather.

01/06/11 Interstate 376 Neshannock Township Fatal Accident
01/06/11 One woman is killed and a man and two children were injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 376 in Neshannock Township this afternoon. 29 year-old Jennifer Lynn Bryant of New Castle was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner, Russel J. Noga, Jr. The driver, Robert Wayne Hoon, 28, also of New Castle, was taken to Jameson Hospital in serious condition and then transferred to a nearby trauma center. The two children, ages 2 and 4, escaped serious injury. The operator lost control near Mitchell Road, hit a guardrail and overturned several times. Both Bryant and Hoon were ejected from the vehicle,

01/03/11 Elderly Man Dies in Union Township Fire
01/03/11  Fire claims the life of an elderly man at his home at 1814 Cameron Avenue, Union Township. According to Chief Stasko of the Union Township Fire Department,  the  man was found in the bathroom of the home. Firemen kept the fire from destroying the home and no known cause had been yet determined.
