12/04/12 Two Victims Hurt by Gunshots at Crestview
A 14 year-old  was shot on Pin Oak Drive in Crestview Gardens shortly after 5 pm today. Police were questioning individuals in an apartment where they believe the shooter may have gone to escape. A second victim, also possibly a shooter, arrived at the Jameson emergency room a short time later. Police put up crime tape on Pin Oak Drive as they searched for evidence. Shenango Township Police helped secure the scene.

11/27/12 Early morning fire destroys an apparent vacant house accross from Laurel High School.

11/21/12 Two Dead in Head On Crash Near Portersville
11/21/12  A Pittsburgh television station is reporting that two people died in a horrific crash in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, just south of Portersville  after 5 pm. Three people were involved in the head-on crash that left Route 19 closed for nearly four hours. A state police forensic team from Butler was called in to reconstruct the accident scene. KDSTV thanks members of the Portersville VFD and Harmony VFD for their assistance at the scene. The video is currently available only to "Emergency Personnel".

11/20/12 Pulaski Police Investigate Multiple Burglaries
11/20/2012  Pulaski Twp. Police are investigating a series of burglaries that have occurred recently in the township. The homes have had their doors kicked in while the residents were away, many of them happening in the day time hours. TVs, jewelery and money were just a few of the items taken. Pulaski Township police officer, Randall Courson, talks with KDSTV about details of the incidents.

11/17/12 Ellwood City Fatal Shooting
11/17/12  A 38 year-old Ellwood City man was gunned down in a parking lot outside the Hazel Manor in Ellwood City around 2 am this morning. Lawrence County coroner, Russell Noga pronounced the man dead apparently from three gunshot wounds. According to Lt. David Kingston of the Ellwood City Police Department, two men inside the Hazel Manor were asked to leave the bar after a confrontation. The two ended up in the parking lot where the one man was then shot. The shooter remained on the scene until police arrived  and took him into custody. The identities of the two men along with more information on the incident will be available when released by police.

11/12/12 Suspected Shooting at West View Terrace
11/12/12  Neighbors reported hearing gun shots at an apartment on Sankey Street in West View Terrace in New Castle shortly before 1 PM. When our crew arrived on the scene, police were identifying evidence in the parking lot next to the apartments. At this point, we are not sure if anyone was hit. We will have an update as more information becomes available.

11/06/12 Fire Destroys Valley Services Truck Repair Garage
11/06/12 Fire destroyed a truck repair garage in Lawrence County shortly after 5 o’clock this morning. Located on Beaver Dam Road near Enon Road (Route 551) in Little Beaver Township, the garage was completely destroyed. Fire deapartments from Beaver and Lawrence County fought the fire for several hours before bringing it under control.

11/06/12 Man Shot on Adams Street in New Castle
11/06/12  A man was reportedly shot in the neck at a home on Adams Street in the city of New Castle around 8:30 in the evening. Neighbors reported hearing three gun shots and a woman screaming. KDSTV was there as the man was transported on a gurney to a Noga Ambulance. The woman in the home was uninjured. Police are still looking for the suspect.

11/06/12 Dogs Rescued in New Wilmington House Fire
11/06/12  Firemen in New Wilmington were called to a house fire on Route 208 near the intersection of Mercer Road around 10 am today. Upon arrival, firemen found flames coming from the front of the house. After gaining entry, a search was conducted for any possible victims. Two dogs were found and rescued from the fire.We were told at the scene that a cat possibly did not survive the fire. A more intensive search was being conducted to determine if any more pets were in the house. The state fire marshal was called.

11/03/12 88 Year-Old Woman and Son Escape House Fire
11/03/12  88 year-old woman and her son escape an early morning fire in New Castle. Waddy Moses was awakened by the sound of breaking glass and found the rear porch to his home on fire. He immediately rescued his mother and their dog before the flames consumed there home.

11/02/12 An Ellwood City teenager was struck by a vehicle near a school bus stop early this morning.

10/29/12 Amish Woman Injured in Car vs Buggy Accident
10/29/12  One woman was taken to UPMC Farrell Hospital with a severe head injury after the buggy she was driving was hit by a motor vehicle. The accident happened on Covered Bridge Road in Wilmington Township shortly before 8:30 this morning. A car driven by Chad Mohr, no age or address given, crested a hill and was unable to stop before seeing and crashing into the buggy. Katie Byler, also no age or address given, was alone in the buggy and transferred by ground ambulance by Noga Medical Personnel. Trooper Darren Vizyak of the New Castle State Police said Summary charges may be filed in the incident. The horse left the scene after the accident and its condition is not known. The driver of the car was not injured.

10/28/12 No One Injured in Inmetco Fire and Explosions
10/28/12 At least four explosions were heard in the Ellwood City area after a fire broke out at the Inmetco Plant shortly after seven pm. Firemen had to first determine what materials were involved and then decide how to put out the fire. According to Tim Stevenson of the Ellwood City Fire Department, water could not be used to fight the fire. He went on to say that bulldozers and backhoes were used to contain the fire. Mayor Anthony Court of Ellwood City said no evacuations of nearby homes were needed. Firemen used breathing apparatus while engaging the fire due to the toxic gases that were being released into the air.

10/25/12 Semi Rolls Over on I-376 in Union Township
10/25/12  Around 6 pm this evening, a westbound semi-truck on I-376 lost control and rolled over in Union Township. The truck was on its side laying next to a large road sign. Union Township Firemen extricated the driver through the window of the cab. He was alert and checked out by Noga Medical Personnel before being transferred to a local hospital. Several Del’s wreckers were brought to the scene to remove the truck. New Castle State Police are investigating. The full video is now  available for "Emergency Personnel"

10/22/12 New Castle Fire Dept Saves East Side House
10/22/12 New Castle Firemen were called to a house fire at 206 Richelieu Ave. on the city’s lower east side around seven am this morning. The call came in that smoke was coming from the roof and a person was knocking on the door in an attempt to alert anyone that may be inside. Firemen arriving on the scene found the second floor on fire and quickly called in a second alarm. The fire was soon extinguished and firemen searched the house but found no occupants. The house appeared to be abandoned but lights were on inside the house. Firemen were on scene for a little over an hour and continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

10/20/12 One Person Is Dead in Mercer County Accident
10/20/12 One person is known dead after a vehicle crashed and overturned on Rout58 in Deleware Township, Mercer County. The accident which occurred  shortly after seven o’clock this morning is being investigated by PSP from Mercer County.

10/20/12 Butler County Family Loses Home To Fire
10/20/12 A family loses their home in an afternoon fire in Butler County. The Bailey family on Bailey Road in Marion Township escaped the burning home. Fire departments from three counties had trouble reaching the home because of the narrow dead end road it was on. Firemen shuttled water from the intersection of Route 58 and Creek Bottom  Road to the intersection of Bailey Road. From there, water was pumped through nearly 1500 feet of hose up the the lane to trucks at the farm house. The shell of the house still remained when we arrived on the scene but it is considered a total loss. Not only was the fire difficult for firemen to reach but our own KDSTV camera man had to walk nearly a mile and a half to bring you this video. It was one of the longest hose lays that we have ever encountered. Some of the trip is documented in the video.

10/17/12 Truck Crashes on Bridge In Slippery Rock Twp
10/17/12 A semi-truck traveling westbound on Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township crashed into both the west and eastbound guardrails on the Rose Point Bridge early this morning. According to television station WPXI, the truck was carrying 37,000 pounds of chicken. The load was not spilled but a small amount of engine oil that leaked onto the highway had to be soaked up with absorbent pads. The driver was checked out by medical personnel but was not transported. The roadway was shut down except for one westbound lane of alternating traffic. The accident took nearly two and one half hours to clean up and state police in New Castle are investigating.

10/17/12 U-Wash-M Car Wash Apartment Fire
10/17/12 Fire damaged a car wash and an apartment on East Washington Street in Shenango Township late this evening. The fire at the U-Wash-M car wash which broke out around eleven o’clock damaged the stairwell leading to the apartment and also caused excessive smoke damage to that apartment. The fire was quickly brought under control by members of the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department and their mutual aid companies. The sate fire marshal is investigating the incident.

10/13/12 Fire Destroys Two Mobile Homes in Neshannock
10/13/2012  Fire destroyed two mobile homes in a Neshannock Township mobile home park around three o’clock this morning. The owner of the first trailer arrived home to find a working fire and quickly alerted the family living in the second trailer of the danger. A husband and wife, along with their three month old baby, escaped with out injury. The family had just moved in about two weeks ago. Neshannock fire chief, John DiCola, told us both homes were totally destroyed. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

10/20/12 One Woman Flown After New Wilmington Accident
10/20/12 A young woman was flown by medical helicopter from a two-vehicle accident in New Wilmington early this morning. The  accident happened in front of a home in the 300 block of E. Neshannock Avenue around 1:30 in the morning. 

09/27/12 Fire Destroys Abandoned House in New Castle
09/27/12 Fire destroyed a large two and one-half story abandoned house on Grant Street in New Castle shortly after 7am this morning. The fire soon grew to two alarms after the first crews from New Castle Fire Department arrived on the scene. Several nearby structures were threatened by the massive flames consuming the house which is located next door to the Salvation Army building on Grant Street. A man and woman waiting in the parking lot for the facility to open saw flames erupting from the home and a man running from the scene. New Castle Police are seen talking with witnesses as they attempt to find the party responsible for the fire.

09/21/12 Man Stabbed After Dispute Over Money at Tent City
09/21/12 One man’s face was slashed with a knife by another man who argued with him over twenty dollars at Tent City. The victim, Dominick Sansone, was taken to Jameson Hospital with a three inch cut to his left cheek and jaw. Police almost immediately confronted the suspect, James Vukich, behind Beer 4 Less and took him into custody. He was later arraigned by Magistrate David Rishel on aggravated assault and other charges. Vukich was placed in the Lawrence County Jail in lieu of a one hundred thousand dollar bond.

08/30/12 Butler Co Man Killed in Motorcycle-Truck Accident
08/30/12  A Butler County man was killed early this afternoon after the motorcycle he was operating failed to stop at the intersection of Route 528 and Lower Harmony Road in Connoquenessing Township, Butler County and crashed into a semi-truck. The victim was thrown from his motorcycle and landed underneath the trailer. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by a member of the Butler County Coroner’s office. Another motorcycle traveling with the deceased victim was able to stop his motorcycle in time and was not injured. The truck was hauling a liquid that was used in the fracking process at a nearby marcellus gas facility. The driver of the truck was not injured.

08/19/12 Woman Injured in Ellport Boro House Fire
08/19/12  One  woman sustained burns on her foot and another escapes injury as they fled their home after the front porch caught fire shortly after three o’clock today. Firemen arrived to find flames shooting from the porch and up the front wall of the house. A neighbor had used a water hose to attack the fire but was not able to contain it. Firemen were able to save the house from being destroyed but there was a large amount of smoke and water damage throughout. The PSP fire marshal was contacted in an effort to determine the actual cause of the fire.

08/13/12 Pine Township House Fire on Enterprise Road
08/13/12  Fire began in the attached garage area and spread to the home located at 772 Enterprise Road in Pine Township, Mercer County. Firemen were able to save much of the home utilizing fire departments from three counties. Pine Township Fire Chief Chris Holmes talks more about the incident.

08/02/12 4 Youths Injured in Neshannock ATV Accident
08/02/12  Four youths ranging in ages from 10 to 13 years were injured in a two-ATV accident in Neshannock Township.

08/01/12 Gaslight Mobile Home Park Fire
08/01/12 Fire heavily damages a mobile home at the Gas Light Mobile Home Park on Route 108 in Hickory Township. The Hickory Township police chief arrived to find smoke coming from a rear bedroom. One of the first firemen on the scene deployed the FIT-5 fire suppression device in an attempt to knock down the fire. The fire continued to burn out of control until Hickory, Shenango and Scott Township fire departments put out the fire. The occupants were away at the time. Several other fire departments provided assistance at the scene. 

07/28/12 Taylor Twp. ATV Accident Injures 10 Year-Old
7/28/12  Parents of a 10 year-old boy from Taylor Township watch as a STAT MedEvac helicopter attempts to land at a ballfield in West Pittsburgh to transport their injured son. The boy was hurt in an ATV accident along Blake Lane just off River Road around 3:30 pm. He was taken from the accident scene by Medevac Ambulance personnel and transferred to the medical helicopter. Stat MedEvac was to fly the victim to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh but because of bad weather the helicopter was diverted to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown. His condition was not immediately known. Dave Allegro, Taylor Township Fire Chief, explains more.

07/22/12 NC Fireman Rescued After Building Collapse
 07/22/12 A fireman was rescued from a burning building early this evening in downtown New Castle. The fire in the rear of a three-story brick building in the 100 block of E. Washington Street, immediately went to a general alarm with several adjoining townships assisting. The fireman became trapped after an internal collapse and was rescued by other firemen and New Castle City Police. He was taken to Jameson Hospital and his condition is not currently known. The rescue took place while an outside wall was threatning to collapse on the rescuers. Firemen were on the scene till almost midnight.

07/08/12 Ambulance and Car Collide on Route 65

07/08/12 After striking a car on Route 65 near the Hogue Road intersection in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, a 33 year-old woman’s vehicle slid into the path of a southbound Noga Amblulance. The ambulance had just dropped off a patient in New Castle and was returning to its base in Ellwood City. The woman in the car was trapped for about 45 minutes before being extricated by members of the Slippery Rock and Shenango Township fire departments. She was flown to a local trauma center. Two Noga Ambulance personnel were self-extricated through the rear of the ambulance and were taken to Jameson and Ellwood City Hospitals with non life-threatning injuries. The New Castle man whose car was hit first hit escaped injury. Satate police are investigating and we will have further information when their press release is available.


06/24/12 One Man Is Dead After New Beaver Crash
06/24/12 One man died at the scene and another was flown to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh after a Sunday morning crash on Route 168 in New Beaver Boro. A pickup truck carrying two occupants sheared off  a utility support pole and the roof and passenger door was ripped from the vehicle. One man, apparently the passenger, was unresponsive and was administered CPR at the scene. He later died and the coroner was called to the scene. A passerby told us that the driver approached her after she stopped at the scene and she could see that he was visibly bleeding from the head. A second ambulance arrived at the scene and took the man to the New Beaver Fire Department where a landing zone was set up by members of the Enon Valley Fire Department. Firemen were on the scene till approximately 3:30 pm while the state police did their investigation. We are waiting to receive a fax from PSP to identify the victims and where they are from.

06/22/12 Fire Destroys Garage of Elderly Koppel Couple
06/22/12 Koppel, PA - Shortly after eight this morning, firemen were called to a structure fire at 4425 Fourth Ave. in Koppel. When firemen arrived, they found a two-story garage behind the home that was fully involved with flames. Home owner, a handicapped retired B&W worker by the nane of Don Sapp, said his burglar alarm alerted him to the fire. When he opened the door of the garage, flames shot out and he could see flames coming from the hood of his Lincoln Town Car. Firemen arrived quickly and put the flames out within a half hour of the call but not before almost every thing inside was destroyed. Sapp considered the garage his second home keeping all his valuables there like antiques, nearly a dozen guns and his workshop. The car, along with a riding lawnmower were also destroyed. No injuries were reported and the exact cause of the fire is not yet known.

06/04/12 Rodgers Sandblasting in Mercer Destroyed By Fire
06/04/12 Fire broke out at Rodgers Sandblasting on Butler Pike (Route 258)  in Mercer County around nine o’clock this morning. Fire Chief William Finley said the garage was fully involved when their crews arrived. Firemen had to wait for power to be turned off because of wires that had fallen. Several explosions were heard and possibly could be attributed to drums of sand exploding, according to Finley. There were also various types of chemicals in the building. Employee Jesse Wasser said that an outlet was sparking and set fire to some nearby flammable materials. Finley had not talked to anyone yet and could not confirm the source of the fire.

06/01/12 Three Youths Rescued From River in Ellwood City
06/01/12  Three youths, ranging in ages of 12 to 13 years old, were pulled from a rock in the middle of the Connoquenessing Creek after being stranded during a sudden downpour yesterday evening. The incident occurred in the river and down a steep embankment just off Pittsburgh Circle in Ellwood City around 7:30 p.m. After accessing the situation, Ellwood City Police and Fire Departments contacted the "swift water rescue team"  from the Beaver Falls Fire Department to help in the rescue. After arriving, rescue crews descended down the steep embankment just off Pittsburgh Circle in Ellwood City. Ropes were secured along the way to help in the descent and the eventual return up the hill. After reaching the river, rescuers attached a rope to the rock which was about thirty to forty feet off shore and removed the youths, one at a time. After bringing them to the top of the hill and awaiting family members, they were checked out by medical personnel. Other than being cold and wet, the youths suffered no serious injuries.

05/29/12 Butler Avenue Subway Robbed in New Castle
05/29/12 New Castle - The Subway Restaurant on Butler Avenue was robbed at gunpoint shortly before 10 p.m. this evening. According to scanner reports, two black males, approximately in their twenties and both branishing handguns, robbed the restaurant and fled in an unknown direction.

05/27/12 Missing Teens Found Near Kennedy Mills
Around 3:30 this morning, a call came into Lawrence County 911 stating that a teenager was missing in the woods in Slippery Rock Twp., Lawrence County. Rescue workers arriving on the scene quickly located the missing teen but was told there were as many as 10 others in the woods. The incident occurred in an area near Kennedy Mills on Frew Mill Road which is near Camp Agawam, the Boy Scout camp. This is where the command center was established. State Police were called and rescuers began seeing other teens coming from different areas of the woods. State Police say a total of 11 teens were involved ranging in age of 15 to 18. One was a girl. State Police interogated the group for nearly an hour at the scene. They said the teens were not being charged with any offenses. State police lectured the group on what they had done, especially the inconvienence to emergency rescuers who had to respond in the early morning hours.

05/27/12 Man Rescued From Vacant Shenango China Bldg
5/27/12 New Castle - A man was injured while tresspassing in a vacant Shenango China building that was recently damaged in a fire. A man and woman walking along the railroad tracks next to the burned out building around 8:30 pm, heard the man screaming for help. They contacted authorities and police found the man injured inside the building and firemen were called to ssistant medical personnel in extricating the victim. We were there as the victim was removed from the building in a stokes basket and was put into an awaiting ambulance. Medical personnel at the scene stated that the man had an apparent head injury and was continually screaming for help. The building suffered a structure fire which was ruled an arson on May 25 and has been the site of many break-ins and tresspassers in the past. About a year ago, the site was the scene of a major fire severely damaged the building. We do not know the man’s condition or where he was taken.

05/24/12 Mercer Springfield Twp. Semi vs SUV Accident
05/24/12 Shortly before noon today, a semi-truck and SUV collided at the intersection of Route 19 and Route 208 in Springfield Twp., Mercer County. According to Mercer State Police at the scene, the truck was traveling south on Route 19 when the woman driving the SUV pulled from Route 208 into the path of the semi, causing it to jack knife. The SUV rolled over, trapping the woman for about a half hour. State Police say she was taken to Grove City Hospital with unknown injuries. The truck driver was not injured. The fuel tank on the semi was ruptured and spilled fuel onto Route 19. Several road signs were damaged and Penn Dot was called to help with the cleanup.

05/19/12 Man Trapped Under ATV in North Beaver Twp
05/19/12  A 911 cell phone call was placed around 4:30 this morning from a man who was trapped under his overturned ATV in North Beaver Township. It was first believed that the man was in Taylor Township but after pin-pointing the cell-phone call, it was determined he was in North Beaver Township along the railroad tracks about one-half mile from Montgomery Ave. Several policemen from New Castle found the man and removed the ATV from the victim. New Beaver Fire Department provided their rescue ATV and brought the victim back to the Montgomery Crossing where the ambulance and state police were waiting for the man. Still clutching his cell-phone, the man complained of hip pain and was transferred to Jameson Hospital. His name was not immediately available but is expected state police will have more information later today.

05/13/12 Vacant Big Beaver House Destroyed By Fire
05/13/12 Fire destroyed a vacant house on Big Beaver Blvd. shortly before 5 am this morning. Firemen had to shut down the northbound lanes of Route 18 so that their trucks could access the scene and fight the fire.The house has been empty for over five years and electricity was turned off at the meter.The fire marshal was called toinvestigate the suspicious fire. The roadway continued to be closed for several hours. The Big Beaver Fire Department was assisted by a host of fire departments which included Koppel, Chippewa, Beaver Falls and Enon Valley.

05/13/12 A Man is Shot Near Wick and Locust in New Castle
05/13/12 A man was reported shot in the area of Wick and Locust in the City of New Castle around noon today. Police found a man with a non life-threatning wound to the leg and was transported to Jameson Hospital. Soon after police rushed to the area of the old police station which is about four blocks from the shooting scene. They may have had infrmation that a suspect was in that area but it is not known if anyone was taken into custody.

04/28/12 Man Flown After Two Vehicle Accident in Wampum
Around 2:30 pm today, a 2 vehicle ax occured in the boro of Wampum (Lawrence County) at the intersection of Clyde Street and Route 18. According to Wampum Police, a paasenger vehicle pulled from Clyde Strret into the path of a southbound vehicle striking the drivers side, causing the southbound vehicle to leave the roadway and slam roadside into a metal utility pole. The male driver of the sb vehicle was trapped for a short while and was extricated by members of the Wampum and New Beaver Fire Departments. The male was taken by Noga Ambulance to a nearby landing zone at the Wampum Ballpark where he was flown to an unknown hospital. The woman was checked at the scene by medical personnel but refused treatment. There was a slight rain at the time of the incident but it is not known if that played any part in the accident.

04/28/12 Fire Seriously Damages Duplex in New Castle
04/28/12  Fire broke out in a large two-story wood-frame duplex house around 11:30 pm Saturday evening. A passerby reported smoke coming from the second floor aprtment and lights were on in the first floor apartment. Firemen arrived to a large amount of smoke coming from that second story. After making sure no one was in the building, they directed their efforts to saving the home on the left which was just 6 feet away. Eventually flames errupted from windows and then through the roof of the duplex.. A woman arrived at the scene and told me she had previously lived on the second floor as recently as January and that she still had some belongings there. She went on to say that her friend owns the building and lives on the first floor. He wasn’t there at the time of the fire but was coming to the scene. It took firemen about an hour to bring the fire under control and save the adjacent home from serious damage. New Castle City fire investigators are trying to determine a cause for the fire. Firemen were on scene for several hours.
 

4/22/12 Missing New Castle Man Found Dead
04/22/12 A 18 year-old New Castle man who has been missing for several days has been found dead by his family this morning behind Lockley School on the city’s east side.. The death of Michael McCune of Ray Street has not yet been ruled a homicide but evidence at the scene points to that conclusion according to Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa. Yesterday, the family conducted a search, along with a search team utilizing search dogs, in the wooded area behind the school after the victims cell phone was traced to that area. Nothing was found at that time and the family then contacted Pittsburgh television station WPXI for help. 04/16/12 Fire Damages Pulaski Township Paving Company
04/16/12 A Pulaski Township paving company suffers serious damage after workers inside the building caught a paving machine on fire while using a blow torch. East Coast Paving Company, located on Evergreen Road, could suffer as much as $300,000 in damages to equipment and structure according to Pulaski Township Fire Chief Guy Morse. Firemen from Pulaski Township were assisted by fire departments from New Wilmington and the townships of Neshannock and Mahoning. The state fire marshal was contacted about the fire but it was not immediately known if he would respond.

04/08/12 Man Shoots Himself After Confrontation at House Fire
04/08/12 An Ohio man holding a shotgun kept firefighters from extinguishing a house fire on New Road in North Beaver Township early this afternoon. State Police were called after the man pointed the gun at a North Beaver Township firefighter. The man turned the gun on himself after after ignoring orders from police to put down the weapon. State Police identify the man as Ronald B. Covert, 55, of Negley, Ohio. They say the man is an ex-boyfriend of the owner of the home who was not there at the time of the fire. The fire appears to be suspicious and is being investigated by the state police fire marshal.

04/07/20 Car Hits House in Pine Township Mercer County
04/07/12  Mercer Co. - An out of control car crashes late this afternoon into the side of a house in Pine Township near Grove City. The woman driver was slightly injured and taken to the hospital. The home was seriously damaged and had to be shored up by members of the Mercer County Technical Rescue Team before the car could be removed. A man inside the home escaped injury. 04/06/12 Man Killed in Wayne Township Motorcycle Accident

04/06/12 A 55 year-old man was killed early this morning when his northbound motorcycle hit a guide-rail on Route 65 in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. The accident occurred shortly after 3 o’clock this morning just south of Panella Way on mile-hill. Deputy coroner Sam Teolis pronounced the man deceased at the scene. The victim’s body was found approximately 200 hundred feet from the initial impact site and about 75 feet from his motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet. New Castle State Police were assisted by Wayne,Chewton and Ellwood City Fire Departments along with medical personnel from Medevac Ambulance.

 Update: 4/6/12 New Castle State Police have identified the operator of the motorcycle as Randall Lee Hall, 55, of North Camp Run Road in Fombell. He was driving a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle.


04/06/12 Neshannock Township Home Destroyed By Fire

03/28/12 Car Hits House on Elmwood Street in Union Twp
03/28/12 A vehicle traveling at an apparent high rate of speed on Elmwood Street in Union Township, left the roadway and then struck a utility pole and house. The vehicle then rolled over onto its side and trapped the driver for nearly a half hour. Members of the Union Township Fire Department extricated the driver from the vehicle and he was taken to Jameson Hospital and flown by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. No injuries were reported to anyone in the home or in the nearby vicinity. Union Township Police are continuing their investigation.

03/24/12 I-376 Semi vs Car Fatal at Route 108 Ramp
03/24/12 One man is dead and another uninjured after a semi-truck runs into the back of a car in the driving lane of I-376 near the Route 108 exit ramp in North Beaver Township.The drive of the semi told police that the eastbound car was stopped or barely moving when it was rear-ended by his truck. The driver in the car was trapped for about a half hour before being extricated by members of the North Beaver Township and Union Township fire departments. Stat-MedEvac medical helicopter came to the scene but was turned away when it was determined that the victim would not be flown. He was taken to Jameson Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Pennsylvania State Police from the Gibsonia barracks are investigating the accident.

03/08/12 Vacant Beaver Falls House Destroyed By Fire

03/08/12 A vacant Beaver Falls duplex house was destroyed after a fire broke out in the structure shortly before 3 pm. According to Mark Stowe, Beaver Falls Fire Chief, the second floor was fully involved when firemen arrived. The roof and second floor eventually collapsed. The fire was knocked down in approximately 45 minutes but firemen remained on the scene for several hours. Chief Stowe went on to say that the building had been vacant for about 10 years. Beaver Falls firemen were able to contain the fire and keep it from spreading to nearby occupied homes.

 

 

 


03/06/12 Slippery Rock Twp Route 422 Head On Crash
03/06/12 One man is dead and another is critically injured in a two-vehicle accident in front of the Harley-Davidson Shop on Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. A passenger vehicle traveling eastbound crossed over to the opposite lane hitting a pickup truck head-on shortly before 5 pm.. Witnesses at the scene say that the driver of the car was laying on the highway unresponsive after being ejected from his vehicle. The man in the pickup truck was trapped for at least a half hour and had to be extricated by fire department rescue personnel. Both victims were taken by ambulances to medical helicopters at a landing zone at McConnell’s Mill State Park which is near by. They were flown to Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh where the driver of the car was pronounced deceased. The driver of the truck remains in critical condition. New Castle State Police closed the highway for several hour while they conducted their investigation.Slippery Rock Township Fire Department was assisted by Portersville Fire Department.

03/05/12 Neshannock Twp House Fire Kills an Elderly Man
03/05/12 One man is dead and a woman is recovering in a Youngstown hospital after an early morning fire in Neshannock Township. The coroner has yet to release the names of the elderly couple believed to be in their eighties. The fire at 205 Worthington Ave. did little damage to the exterior of the home but was deadly to the man inside. Police tried entering the home to rescue the couple but were driven back by heavy smoke. Firemen arriving on the scene pulled the woman, who appeared to be coherent, from the front of the house. The man in the rear bedroom was unresponsive. The woman was taken by Noga Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown. Her condition is unknown at this time. Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga arrived on the scene as well as the state fire marshall who is investigating the cause of the fire. Neshannock Township fire chief John DiCola talked with KDSTV’s Joe Sobczak and released this information on the fire.

03/03/12 Darlington Twp 2-Vehicle Accident on Taggart Road
03/03/12 Three people were taken to Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver with unknown conditions after a 2-vehicle crash on Taggart Road in Darlington Township just before 4 p.m. today. According to state police in Beaver, a male driver attempted to pass a SUV at an excessive speed but swerved to avoid colliding with an oncoming vehicle and struck the SUV causing it to overturn. The driver of the passing vehicle then struck a tree and became trapped for a short while. State Police are considering filing charges against that driver in the incident. Darlington Township VFD assisted at the scene and provided traffic control closing Taggart Road for over an hour.

02/27/12 Scrap Hauler Rolls Over on I-376 Ramp in Beaver Co
02/27/12 A tractor-trailer carrying scrap metal rolled over on an I-376 exit ramp near Aliquippa shortly after noon. The truck and spilled load blocked on lane of traffic on Mill Street. The driver who is expected to be charged in the accident, was taken to a Sewickley hospital with non life threatning injuries. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the accident.

02/25/12 New Castle Fire Claims a Life Early Saturday Morning
02/25/12  An early morning fire claims the life of an unidentified man at a home on Phillips Street in the city of New Castle. The 2 and 1/2 story brick structure contained two apartments. The man was found in a second floor bedroom and it is believed that the man was not a resident. A man and a woman on the first floor escaped injuries and are being helped by the American Red Cross. Russell Noga, Lawrence County Coroner, said the man’s body was taken to Beaver Medical Center in attempt to determine his identity and cause of death, The fire marshall is investigating the cause of the fire. Noga says a computer in the apartment may help in identifying the man. KDSTV has learned that the man’s death may be suspicious. More information is expected to be released on Monday.

02/25/12 Body Found in New Castles Neshannock Creek
02/25/12 Just after 9 o’clock this morning, emergency personnel were called after a body was discovered in the Neshannock Creek near the Mill Street bridge in New Castle. Deputy Coroner Richard Johnson told KDSTV than the man appeared to be in his fifties and could have been the water for as many as ten hours. Police are believed to know the identity of the man and we are waiting for release of that information. Johnson says that the drowning does not appear to be suspicious. It is not known if the man accidentally fell or jumped into the river.

02/20/02 Fire Destroys Building at Combined Tactical Systems

02/20/12  Fire destroyed one of the production buildings belonging to Combined Tactical Systems on Kinsman Road near Jamestown, PA around noon. The company makes and supplies munitions and crowd control devices for the military and law enforcement agencies. A fire in a similar building in November extensively damaged that building and was located next to the building which burned today. The state fire marshall was called to the scene to investigate the fire. People were working in the building but no injuries occurred. It took our news crew over an hour to get to the scene only to be denied access to the property.

 


02/16/12 New Castle Boyles Ave Shooting
02/16/12  One man was taken to the hospital after a shooting around 8 pm on Boyles Avenue in the city of New Castle. Reportedly, a man was shot in the back several times and that the lone suspect dressed in back fled the scene on foot. Police surrounded the home  at the intersection of Boyles Avenue and Centennial Street with crime tape. Evidence markers on the ground near the home indicate at least six or more shots may have been fired. This was confirmed by neighbors who did not wish to be interviewed. The man was taken by ground ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown where his condition is unknown.

02/14/12 Pulaski Township I-376 Fatal Accident
02/14/12  A Taylor Township man died in an early morning motor vehicle accident on Interstate 376 in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County. Rodney Scott Shropshire, 40, of West Pittsburgh, was pronounced deceased at the scene bu Lawrence County Deputy Coroner, Al DeCarbo. According to New Castle State Police, Shropshire’s vehicle became disabled in the eastbound right lane after a prior accident with a Penn Dot truck. Seconds later, a semi-truck driven by Lance Raymond Shaneyfelt, 39, of Stafford, Virginia, rear ended the Shropshire vehicle. Both Shaneyfelt and Penn Dot worker, Julian Lanesmith, 46 of New Castle, were not injured in the accident. The eastbound lanes of Interstate 376 between the Pulaski and Mitchell Road exits, were closed for over seven hours. New Castle State Police continue to investigate the accident.

02/13/12 Man Dies in Mercer County House Fire

-2/13/12  A fire shortly before 8:30 this evening in Springfield Township, took the life of a Mercer County man. The fire, on Perry Highway (Route 19) near Leesburg, destroyed the two story wood-frame house Initial scanner reports stated flames were scene coming from the rear of the structure. It was around 9:40 pm when firemen removed the body of the victim. Several family members came to the scene and had to be consoled by fire department personnel. The State Police Fire Marshall was called to the scene as well as a representative of the Mercer County Coroner’s office. 02/11/12 Woman Dies in Little Beaver Township House Fire
02/11/12  An early morning fire that began around 4 a.m., destroyed an old two story frame farmhouse and took the life of a 51 year-old Beaver Falls woman. Three other victims, one with moderate injuries, escaped with their lives. Firemen had to navigate icy roadways to reach the house which was fully involved when they arrived on the scene. The state fire marshall is investigating the blaze.

02/01/12 Lake Arthur Estates Fire Destroys Mobile Home
02/01/12 Fire broke out early this morning in a vacant mobile home at Lake Arthur Estates near Portersville. Firemen arrived in minutes of receiving the call to find flames coming from the rear of the mobile home. It took less than a half hour to extinguish the fire which completely destroyed the trailer. According to the owner, he was in the process of renting the trailer to a couple who had been renovating it the past few months, The fire is considered suspicious since no utilities were connected. Firemen were on the scene for about two hours.

01/28/12 Firemen Battle Stubborn Fire at JB Mill in Hickory Township

01/28/12  KDSTV talked with Hickory Township fire chief, David White and he provided some of the following information.

 Fire broke out in a metal style pole building at J.B. Mill Fabricating around 5:15 pm today. The fire was spotted by a passing Hickory Township police officer. The gate to the facility was locked. 4 area fire departments responded. The initial call said it was the main building but it was soon determined that building was not involved. The fire was contained to the west wall and rafters of the sawdust collection building. Firemen had to deal with the wind blowing saw dust into the air. The fire was brought under control in a short while. According to White, he believed no one was working at the plant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. The fire marshal has not been called at this time even though the cause of the fire has yet to be determined and no damage estimates were available. Firemen were on the scene for two and a half hours. According to the website, JBMill.com, the company, J.B. Mill and Fabricating Company, manufactures custom industrial wood packaging products. They are located at 2851 Eastbrook Volant Road (Route 168), New Castle, PA.

01/20/12 Two Die and One Injured in Shenango House Fire
01/20/12 A mother and child die in their Moravia Street home early this morning and another child is in a Pittsburgh Hospital with serious burns. Firemen were called to the two-story wood-frame home around 1;30 am to find the home fully engulfed in flames. One child reportedly was forced to jump from a second story window. The fire was brought under control in about an hour. The coroner and fire Marshall were called to the scene.

01/19/12 Semi Truck Carrying Garbage Rolls Over On I-80 Ramp

01/19/12 A tractor-trailer box-style truck overturned on an I-80 ramp in Shenango Township, Mercer County around one o’clock this afternoon. The truck carrying garbage rolled over a guard-rail and over-turned onto its roof. The load partially spilled between two ramps but did not hinder traffic traveling in either direction. The driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Mercer State Police are investigating the incident.

 


01/16/12 Chippewa 2-Vehicle Ax Constitution at McKinley

01/16/12 Around 8:15 this morning, a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck accident occurred at the intersection of Constitution Blvd .(Route 51) and McKinley Road in Chippewa Township, Beaver County. It appears the semi was traveling east on Route 51 and slammed into the pickup truck at the intersection. We have not yet received word as to what driver had the right-of-way. The driver of the pickup was trapped for a short while. After being extricated from his vehicle, he was taken to an awaiting medical helicopter at the Beaver County Airport. More details will be available as Chippewa Police release them.

01/09/2012 North Beaver & Springfield Townships Fires
01/09/2012  Two fires, one in Pennsylvania, one in Ohio break out almost simultaneously before 7 am this morning. North Beaver Twp. Firemen were called to a home fire on Knoll Drive in the Jackson Knolls Plan of North Beaver. The fire was confined to the attic of the home. Residents left the home shortly before the fire broke out,. The fire on State Line Road in Springfield Township, Ohio involved a commercial business. Dave Sugar, Inc. and housed the Dave Sugar Contracting Company. The main building which was destroyed  included the office. North Beaver and Springfield Township Fire Departments normally assist each other but had their own fires to fight. North Beaver eventually sent a tanker to Ohio to assist after the home fire was extinguished.

01/06/2012 Beaver County Fire Departments Help Fight Ohio Fire
01/06/12 At least four Beaver County fire departments rendered mutual aid to a number of Ohio departments to help fight a house fire on State Line Road near Negley, Ohio. According to the Lisbon Morning Journal, the fire took the life of an elderly man and destroyed an old farm house and trailer around 4:30 pm today. East Palestine, New Waterford and Negley Fire Departments remained on the scene into the early hours of the evening. No information was available on the identity of the victim when this story was posted.

01/06/12 16 Year-Old Girl Killed By Train in Beaver Falls
01/06/12  A 16 year-old Beaver Falls girl was hit by a train and fatally injured early this afternoon. The accident happened near the 15TH Street crossing and has been ruled a suicide by the Beaver County Coroners Office.

1/05/12 Neshannock Twp Kings Chapel Road Accident
01/05/12  One man was injured when he crashed his pickup truck into some trees along Kings Chapel Road in Neshannock Township today. The man was first reported to be unconscious in the truck but not seriously trapped. He was transported by Noga Ambulance to a landing zone on Old Pulaski Road which was manned by members of the New Wilmington Fire Department. The victim’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
