12/28/13 Pulaski Twp Mobile Home Destroyed By Fire
12/28/13 Fire destroyed a mobile home in Heritage Hills Mobile Home Park in Pulaski Township, Lawrence County. A fireman who lives in the park arrived at the Beechwood Blvd. home to see smoke and flames coming from a window. A woman and her children barely escaped after noticing the fire near a space heater. Half of the trailer had severe fire damage and the rest suffered smoke, heat and water damage. The fire marshal was contacted to help find the cause of the fire.

12/26/13 Union Twp I-376 Rear-End Accident
12/26/13 Two drivers escape serious injury as a pickup slams into the rear of a passenger vehicle near the 12 mile marker on I-376 in Union Township. State police tell us that the car traveling in the westbound driving lane came to a near stop because of mechanical problems and was hit from behind by the pickup truck. The westbound lanes were closed for nearly an hour while the wreckage was cleared. State police continue to investigate the accident.

Route 208 Springfield Township Rollover Accident
11/30/13 An icy spot on the roadway may be partially to blame for a rollover accident on Route 208 in Springfield Township, Mercer County. The accident occurred around 7:30 this morning and had one male driver slightly injured. Volant and Springfield Township fire departments assisted at the scene.

Domestic Sends 2 People to the Hospital, Another in Custody
New Castle - Two people were stabbed shortly before 3:30 pm at a home in the 500 block of E. Long Avenue. A third person was taken in for questioning apparently due to a family domestic. A young child was in the house at the time. One man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by ground ambulance and another was flown by medical helicopter to an unknown hospital. New Castle Police are continuing their investigation.

Union Township Modular Home Destroyed By Fire
A modular home on Old-Youngstown Road in Union Township was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon. Three people and a dog escaped the flames. Union Township VFD assistant chief Patrick Donofrio talks with Joe Sobczak of KDSTV.com about the fire. The story is available to only  members with an "Emergency Personnel" account.

09/18/13 Suspected Meth Lab Found in Britton Hill Apartment
After police responded to a call concerning trespassing in a Britton Hill apartment, a suspected meth lab was uncovered. The Lawrence County Drug Task Force was called to remove the suspected illegal drugs and several occupants were taken into custody by New Castle City Police.

09/16/13 Police Pursuit Ends With Crash Into Home

09/10/13 Family Injured in Ax by Suspected Impaired Driver
A family of five was transported to a Youngstown hospital after a two-car accident in North Beaver Township, Lawrence County around eight pm Tuesday evening. The nineteen year-old driver of the second car faces multiple charges including driving under the influence of a controlled substance and was taken into custody at the scene. After a search of the suspect’s vehicle, suspected marijuana was found and additional charges were filed.

09/06/13 3 Dead After Mercer Co I-79 Head-on Crash
09/06/13  A head-on crash at the 135 mile-marker of I-79 in Mercer County took the lives of three people Friday evening around 6 pm. A 62 year-old New York man traveling south on I-79 lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median and hit a northbound vehicle carrying two women from Sewickley. The man was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The two woman died at the scene. The roadway was closed for nearly 4 hours.

08/31/13 Trucks Hits House in Jefferson Township
08/31/13 A Mercer County family arrived home after attending the Stoneboro Fair only to find their home severely damaged. Tammy Lantz, her husband and four children were temporarily displaced after a pickup truck struck there  home and forced a steel beam three feet through their back wall causing the home to be inhabitable. The man in the truck was flown to a hospital in Youngstown. Hear from police, a fireman and the homeowner about the ordeal.

82 Year-Old Man Flown After Shenango Accident

Fast Check Food Mart Ax
One man is taken to Jameson Hospital after an SUV crashes into The Fast Check Food Mart on East Washington Street shortly before 9:30 pm.. The driver was reportedly unresponsive according to the scanner. Firemen had to put out a fire in the engine compartment. The front window and door were knocked out by the crash. Two employees and two customers who were in the story escaped injury. It was not immediately known why the man crashed his car in to the store.

07/25/13 Search For Man at Route 422 Rosepoint Bridge

A state police incident that started early this morning may have resulted in a man jumping into the Slippery Rock Creek near the Rosepoint Bridge on Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township. Rescue personnel from many local fire departments along with search dogs were called to the scene to search the creek for the missing man. His truck is seen parked at the end of the bridge where many evidence markers were on the roadway. We were told by an unnamed source that the markers were blood droppings that were seen leading to the bridge. State police were not immediately releasing information on the incident.


07/11/13 Woman Hit by Car on Taylor Street in New Castle
07/11/13 A 43 year-old woman suffered life-threating injuries after she was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Taylor Street in New Castle shortly after 1 PM. According to Bronzelle Sanders of New Castle, she was crossing the street with her friend when she heard a thump and turned to see the victim hit the windshield and fall to the ground. The unresponsive woman was taken to Jameson Hospital and then flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown where her condition remains unknown. An elderly woman who was driving the car that hit the victim was helped by a New Castle police officer to a nearby cruiser. The investigation is continuing.

07/02/13 Truck Overturns on Route 422 in SRTownship
Shortly after 9 o’clock this morning for some unknown reason, a driver lost control of his truck on Route 422 near the Harley-Davidson Shop near RosePoint and rolled over spilling a load of gravel partially on to the highway. The man, according to the scanner, suffered head trauma and was in and out of conciousnous. When we arrived on the scene, the driver was still trapped and being cut from the vehicle by rescue members of the Scott and Slippery Rock Township Fire Departments. He was taken to the landing zone at McConnell’s Mill State Park ballfield and flown by Stat-Medevac Helicopter to an undetermined hospital. The roadway was closed in both directions during extrication but afterwards traffic was permitted to alternate pass the scene. Crews were already in the area and were removing the gravel from the highway even while the driver was being extricated. New Castle State Police are investigating.

06/21/13 Early Morning Fire Destroys New Castle House
06/21/13 Fire destroyed a Cascade Street house around 2:30 this morning. The house located in the 1000 block was shooting flames through the roof when firemen arrived. A second alarm was called in.The house had been empty for some time and was for sale. Firemen spent most of the morning putting out hot spots before returning to the station shortly before 6 am.

06/07/13 Woman Injured In Perry Township House Fire

06/07/13  A Perry Township women was rescued early this morning from her burning home at 720 Portersville Road, Perry Township. The 7 AM fire severely gutted the older one story wood frame home and  sent the woman to Ellwood City Hospital. A medical helicopter was first called but it could not immediately fly because of the weather. KDSTV talked with one of the rescuers and he said the woman suffered cuts from glass and smoke inhalation. The fire marshal was on scene early this morning to investigate the cause of the fire.

UPDATE: Brian Partridge, Wurtemburg-Perry assistant fire chief, tells us the woman suffered serious burns and was transferred to the burn center in Pittsburgh. He went on to say that the woman told authorities that she had oxygen tanks in the home and had been smoking, causing the fire.

06/05/13 New Castle Police Car Hit While Responding
06/05/13 Shortly after 1 pm this afternoon, a New Castle police cruiser was responding to a call with lights and sirens on when it was hit by a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Mill and North Streets. KDSTV talked with the 83 year-old driver of the passenger vehicle, Chuck Ramsey, who said he heard sirens as he was proceeding  through the intersection. Ramsey’s car impacted the driver’s side door of the cruiser. Ramsey was checked out at the scene by Noga medical personnel but refused treatment. The police officer went by private vehicle to Jameson Hospital to get checked out. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the accident.

06/03/13 Fire at Deerfield Farms Quickly Contained
06/03/13 A fire broke out in a fertilizer storage building at Deerfield Farms Services located on Black Road in Washington Township, Lawrence County shortly after 5 pm today. Early scanner reports say that an interior wall was on fire and employees were attempting to put it out with a garden hose. Firemen arriving on the scene reported light smoke showing. The fire was brought under control in less than a half hour. Fire departments from three counties help fight the fire. Extra precautions were taken because of the chemicals and fertilizers stored in the building. The company sells seeds and fertilizers to farmers.

06/01/13 Perry Township Head-On Ax Route 488
06/01/13  A pick up truck and passenger vehicle collided head-on late this afternoon in Perry Township, Lawrence County. The accident in the 700 block of Route 488 near Perry School sent a four year-old boy to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. A woman in the truck and a man in the car were not injured. The boy was taken by Noga Ambulance to an awaiting medical helicopter at the Ellwood City Hospital heliport for transport to Pittsburgh. For an unknown reason, the driver of the car was traveling toward Portersville and crossed into the path of the truck.  PSP from New Castle is investigating the accident.

05/30/13 Franklin Township Head-On Crash Injures Two
05/30/13  Two people were injured in a two vehicle head-on crash on Mercer road this morning. Firemen had to extricate victims from their vehicles. One person had to be flown by helicopter to a Pittsburgh Hospital. Distracted driving is being blamed for the accident.

05/28/13 Ellwood City Home Destroyed By Fire
05/28/13 The 16 minute video of the Ellwood City fire on Spring Ave is now available for "Emergency Personnel"., Also there is a preview video for the general public which includes interviews with family members, neighbors and Ellwood City Assistant Fire Chief, Jack Andrews.

05/25/13 No One Injured in Kennedy Square Accident
05/25/13  One vehicle was overturned after being hit by another on Kennedy Square in New Castle around 8 pm. Amazingly no one was injured in the crash which drew a large crowd of onlookers.

05/24/13 Taylor Twp Warner Alley Fire and Domestic
05/24/13  A house fire in Taylor Township early this morning was apparently a result of a domestic situation. Click the "Television Stations" link at the top of this page and select KDKA for more details.

05/23/13 Man Trapped After Truck Hits Tree in Pulaski Twp
05/23/13  Pulaski Township Police were called around 1:30 this morning to a single vehicle accident on Route 422 near Pine Glen Road. According to Pulaski Police, a man in his thirties, was driving his pick up truck east on Route 422 when it left the roadway and traveled in a culvert for about 470 feet before striking a tree. The man was trapped for about a half hour before being extricated by members of the Pulaski Township Fire Department. Police went on to say that the man suffered apparent facial injuries was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

05/23/13 Woman Injured As Car Goes Over Embankment

05/20/13 Vacant House Destroyed on Citys Southside
05/20/13  New Castle Firemen were called to vacant house fire on Galbreath St. shortly before 1 am this morning. Crews arrived to find the two story wood structure fully envolved with fire. At one point a pine tree caught fire sending sparks high into the sky. The flames were so intense, firemen directed their hoses towards adjacent homes and homes accross the street to prevent the flames and sparks from setting them on fire. There was already an empty lot on each side of the burning structure which provided a buffer zone to the adjacent structures, It is believed those houses were also vacant.The city’s fire marshal was immeditately summoned to the scene.

05/20/13 Man Survives Fall at McConnells Mill State Park

05/20/13  A 26 year-old man from Struthers, Ohio accidentally fell from a ledge at Kildoo Falls in McConnell’s Mill State Park early this afternoon. The victim, Cody Captain, was rescued in a nearly 1 hour long rescue after falling about twenty feet and sustaining a wound to his head. He was flown from a nearby ball field in the park to an unknown hospital. His cousin, Shane Robertson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was with the victim at the time of the accident and said Cody was trying to take a picture of the falls. Jake Weiland, assistant park manager, said visitors should stay on designated paths and not venture from them. A previous fall at the same spot ended with a deadly outcome. 05/16/13 Truck Pulls Down Wires in Union Township
05/16/13 A tractor-trailer pulled down several utility poles while attempting to make a u-turn on W. State Street in Union Township shortly after 7:30 am this morning. The accident at Cecil Ave. disrupted power on that street. W. State Street had to be restricted from three lanes to two lanes. The driver wasn’t injured and watched as Penn Power crews worked to replace the poles which took most of the day.

05/02/13 Shenango Twp. Police Officer Killed in Pursuit
05/02/13  A woman who was in a Pontiac Sunfire being pursued by New Castle Police is seen sitting on a curb as a police officer watches over her. The Sunfire she was driving slammed into a Shenango Township police cruiser that came to assist New Castle Police. The Shenango cruiser then ran into a parked vehicle in a driveway of a residence on Cascade Street. Jerry McCarthy IV, a Shenango Twp. Police Officer was killed and another STPD officer, Michael Lynch was injured. The woman, 26 year-old Kylee Barletta of New Castle, is in a Youngstown hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be charged with homicide by vehicle and other charges.

04/24/2013 Mercer County Hardware Store Destroyed by Fire
04/24/2013 Fire destroyed a half-century old hardware store business in downtown Sandy Lake early this afternoon. The fire broke out around 1:30 pm, just after it closed at noon. Debbie Millero, who owns a gift and flower shop next door, arrived back at her business after making a delivery and spotted the fire. The Sandy Lake Post Office is located just to the right of the businesses involved in the fire and did not sustain any damages. High winds helped fan the smokey fire which continued to burn for several hours. KDSTV talked with Debbie Millero during the fire and she said she felt bad for the owners of Ebbert’s Hardware Store.

04/15/13 Fire Destroys Vacant Mahoningtown House
Just after 2:30 am this date, fire broke out in a two and one-half story wood frame home in the 500 block of W. Madison Ave. in the Mahoningtown section of New Castle. A neighbor reported flames shooting from a second story window. Firemen arriving on the scene found the home fully involved with flames and called in a second alarm. Fire chief tells us that a neighbor said the tennants had moved out about a week ago. It took firemen about 1 hour to bring the fire under control. The house was destroyed. No injuries were reported

03/26/13 Lawrence County Accidents
03/26/13 Two auto accidents dominate our video news coverage today. The first happened in Hickory Township around 3:15 pm and involves a pickup truck and a small passenger vehicle. Two young people from the car were flown from the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The second accident occurred in Wilmington Township just before 5 pm and involved an elderly couple whose vehicle rolled onto its roof on Route 956. The woman was slightly injured and the man escaped without suffering any trauma.

03/18/13 Afternoon Fire Destroys North Sewickley Home
03/18/13 North Sewickley Township / Beaver County
Fire broke out in a two-story rural brick home just after 1:30 pm this date. Fire Chief Mark Sutherland told me the fire started in the kitchen and soon spread to the second floor. When they arrived on the scene, smoke was coming from all the eaves around the home. Once it got into the attac, it was able to spread accross the second story, completely destroying it. The floor collapse on the first floor ceiling, causing it to come down, causing major damage to the first floor. The fire did not spread to the attached garage. Several dogs were running around the home and one was heard barking inside. When firemen were able to search for the dog, he was not immediately found and it is not known if the dog made it out on his own. Southerland tells us he believes the next door neighbor is the owner and people residing in the house are tennants. He did not know how many people were in the house at the time of the fire but believes that the person who was there has to go to the neighbors to report the fire. Southerland describes the damage as extensive.

03/15/13 Worker Injured at New Castle Auto Wrecking
03/15/13 Shenango Township Police tell us a worker at New Castle Auto Wrecking was struck on the head by an unknown object and had to be transferred by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. The incident happened in the garage area possibly while the man was working on a vehicle. Life Flight helicopter flew him from a landing zone at the Shenango Fire Department. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

03/13/13 ATV Struck By Train in Wampum Boro
Around 11pm, March 13, a train engineer notified Lawrence County 911 that his train hit an ATV on Norfolk-Southern tracks near Darlington Road Crossing in Wampum. After stopping the train, railroad police, Wamum Police and firemen searched the area along the tracks looking for the ATV and rider. Parts of the ATV were found but no sign of the rider or ATV. Wampum police officer, Amanda Ventura says she believes she saw the same atv earlier and believes she knows who the rider is. Police show us some of the atv’s broken parts. The train pulling accross the railroad crossing is the train that was involved. Emergency personnel were on the scene about an hour. Police are now looking for the atv and its rider.

03/11/13 New Galilee Mobile Home Fire

03/10/13 Head-On Crash in New Beaver Boro Injures Two
03/10/13 At least two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident on Route 18 in Lawrence County early this morning. The accident happened in New Beaver Boro just north of Newport Road. One woman in her twenties was trapped for about a half hour and had to be extricated  from the vehicle by members of the New Beaver and Wampum fire departments. She was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown from a landing zone set up at the Wampum Ball Park. A second victim was taken by ground ambulance to Jameson Hospital. Conditions of  both victims were not immediately known. State police say that there may have been several more victims in the accident that were not injured.

03/04/13 Route 158 Wilmington Township House Fire

02/24/13 Man Dies After Crashing Car In Pulaski Township
2/24/13  A 22 year-old man was fatally injured in a one vehicle accident on Route 208 in Pulaski Township just after three o’clock this afternoon. The Ford Mustang was traveling west when the driver lost control, crossed over to the opposite side of the highway, struck a large road sign and rolled over on to its roof.  The man was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead by Lawrence County Assistant Coroner, Richard Johnson. Pulaski Township Police were assisted at the scene by Pennsylvania State Police and New Wilmington Police along with the Pulaski Township Fire Department.

02/19/13 Fire Nearly Destroys Ellwood City Home
02/19/13  Ellwood City Firemen were called to a structure fire at 622 Wayne Ave. shortly after 10 am. A neighbor smelled smoke and tried to enter the basement apartment where he believed the tennant might still be. Billowing smoke prevented him from entering and a 911 call was placed to report the fire. An Ellwood City Policeman also attempted to enter the house to look for victims. After firemen arrived, they found a gas leak in the basement and had to retreat to a defensive mode until Columbia Gas technicians turned off the gas supply to the house. Soon afterwards, it was determined that the basement tennant was away at the time of the fire and no one else was in the house. Fire departments from Lawrence, Beaver and Butler Counties fought the fire for several hours. The state fire marshal was called to investigate the fire.

2/19/13 UPDATE for EP: Slippery Rock Twp Accident
02/19/13  Three people were injured after a wheel chair transport van looses control on icy Route 422 and crashes into a passenger vehicle. One woman was trapped for approximately 45 minutes while rescue crews from Slippery Rock Township and Shenango Twp. Fire Departments extricated her. All were transported by ground because medical helicopters couldn’t fly because of the weather.

01/21/2013 Man Injured After Hickory Township Accident
01/21/13  An elderly man was found unresponsive but breathing when firemen arrived on the scene of a one car accident on Route 108 in Hickory Township, Lawrence County.

01/02/13 Hickory Township State Road House Fire
01/02/2012  A house on State Road in Hickory Township, Lawrence County, was destroyed by fire late this afternoon. No one was at home at the time of the fire but two dogs were found unresponsive under the kitchen table and were transferred to a local vet. Their condition is unknown.
