New Castle Jackson Avenue House Fire
Fire destroys a woman’s home on New Castle’s East Side. The home owner was cooking french fries and temporarily left them unattended. The fire erupted up the kitchen wall and through the roof. She was able to escape with several cats and kittens. The Red Cross is helping her with shelter and clothing.

12/10/14 East Washington Street At Mill Street Crash
12/10/14 Two people were taken to the hospital after an early morning crash in downtown New Castle. A van and a passenger vehicle collided at the intersection of E. Washington Street and Mill Street around 12:30 am.
One man was reported unconscious, according to the scanner. Both air medical services were unable to fly because of weather. The victims were transferred by ground ambulance, one to Jameson Hospital and possibly the other to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. New Castle City Police are investigating. 

12/01/14 Pulaski Township Home Destroyed By Fire
A woman escaped a late morning fire without injury after calling 911. Unfortunately, her home on N. Valley View Road was completely destroyed. Firemen arrived to find the home engulfed with flames. Fire Chief Guy Morse kept his men at a safe distance after hearing ammunition exploding in the structure. The woman’s husband was at work at the time of the fire. The fire marshal arrived just minutes after Penn Power arrived to disconnect power to the house.

10/14/14 A woman loses control of her vehicle in a construction zone on I-376 in Neshannock Township. She was flown to a Youngstown hospital. New Castle State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

10/13/14 A NCAT bus hit a pedestrian on the north hill of New Castle early this afternoon. A man in his fifties is flown by medical helicopter.

06/24/14 Heroin Ring Busted After Year-long Investigation
06/24/14 Around 4:30 this morning, the Lawrence County Drug Task Force along with a multitude of other agencies, initiated several search warrants on four homes in the county. At least 8 individuals were taken into custody and several others are expected to be arrested, including a juvenile. The year-long investigation puts an end to the 3 to 6 million dollar heroin distribution ring lead by kingpin Michael Schmidt, Sr. of 915 Clarence Ave. in New Castle. District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa gave reporters at the Lawrence County Government Center detailed information of the investigation this afternoon. 06/15/14 SUV Crashes Into Chippewa Home
A driver swerves to miss a dog and crashes into a home on Darlington Road in Chippewa Township. No one was at home at the time but a family next door barely escaped being hit by the runaway Hummer.

05/27/14 North Hill Water Break Floods Neshannock Boulevard
A main line water break occurred late this morning on Neshannock Blvd. in New Castle causing low water pressure for area residents. The break between Laurel Blvd. and Moody Ave., had water flowing down Neshannock Blvd. eventually emptying in to storm drains along the way. A few homes near the break were threatened by the rushing water. New Castle Police  and crews from Pennsylvania American Water Company closed down the roadway.while repair crews repaired the leak.

04/25/14 Car and School Bus Collide in Union Township
04/26/14 A passenger vehicle and a school bus collided at the intersection of Matthews Road and Benjamin Franklin Parkway (Route 422) in Union Township around 3:30 this afternoon. A 22 year old man who was driving the car was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Two Mohawk Area School District students were on the STA bus. One was checked in the ambulance by medical personnel and the other refused treatment. The bus driver also was not injured. According to Union Township Police, the driver of the car pulled from Matthews Road into the path of the bus which  had the right of way on Route 422. The man in the car was trapped for a short time before being freed by members of the Union Township Fire Department and Noga Ambulance personnel.

04/20/14 Fire Destroys Mercer Home Early This Morning
Fire destroyed a Mercer home on W. Market Street about 3 am this morning. No injuries were reported as the family was away for the Easter Holiday and is expected to return today. According to a neighbor, the was house was completely in flames before it collapsed. Firemen returned about 8:45 this morning after the fire re-kindled. The fire marshal was expected to be on the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.

04/14/14 Fire Destroys Two New Castle Homes
Fire destroyed two homes late this morning on Taylor Street in New Castle. A mother was able to save herself and two young children after fleeing her burning apartment. An elderly couple living next door in a second house escaped with their lives and not much more as they watched their home also being destroyed.

4/12/14 Man Injured When Car Backs Through Barn Door
A 70 year-old man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after being involved in a freak accident on his farm. The accident happened around 1 pm at the Gardner farm along Old Pittsburgh Road in Wayne Township, Lawrence County. A man was backing up his vehicle to the barn door to purchase hay when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator and cause the car to crash through the door, trapping the victim. The victim was extricated before rescue personnel arrived on the scene. He was taken to a landing zone in a field near the barn and flown to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. His condition was not immediately known. New Castle State Police were on the scene to investigate. It is not known if the driver will face any charges.

04/12/14 Woman Crashes Car Into Dollar General in Neshannock
A woman in her sixties escapes serious injury as her car crashes into the front of the Dollar General Store on Wilmington Road in Neshannock Township around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. According to Neshannock Police, the woman said her accelerator stuck causing the car to crash into the building. She suffered a blood nose and was treated by medical personnel from Noga Ambulance and refused being taken to the hospital. The building suffered the breakage of two large glass windows and the concrete wall was cracked. Police are continuing to look into the cause of the accident. 

Fire Destroys Shenango Township Home
Two adults and two children were not at home when a fire destroys their Ellwood Road home. Firemen were on the scene for two and one half hours dousing hot spots. The fire marshal was called to investigate.

03/16/14 Three Homes Damaged by Fire in Bessemer Boro
Fire destroyed a vacant house and damaged two others in an early Sunday morning fire in Bessemer. Sherry Arnold lives in the occupied house next door and talks to KDSTV about her escape and concerns about the fire. 03/10/14 Little Beaver Twp Home Destroyed by Fire

Pulaski Township Heritage Hills Mobile Home Fire
02/19/14  A vacant mobile home was destroyed and two other structures were damaged in a Pulaski Township fire at Heritage Hills Mobile Home Park shortly before noon today. According to neighbors, the trailer had been empty for about a month and a half. . Fire departments from Lawrence and Mercer Counties along with several Ohio departments fought the blaze for several hours. One fireman was slightly injured and the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Injuries Reported In Early Morning Neshannock House Fire

A family escapes a Neshannock Township house fire with the help of police and a passerby.  The passerby reported flames coming from the Kings Chapel Road house around 4:30 am. A mother and six year-old were already outside the home when police arrived. They were told there were two children still in the home. Police rescued a sixteen year-old male from the home but could not locate the 11 year-old. After fearing the worst, it was eventually determined the 11 year-old child was not at home at the time. The family was taken to Jameson hospital. The house was completely destroyed


Two Men Rescued After New Castle One-Vehicle Crash
A car misses a concrete bridge and plunges into a small creek below, trapping the occupants. New Castle firemen used a ladder and a stokes basket to pull the victims to the roadway after extricating them from their vehicle. Both were taken to Jameson Hospital where one was loaded on to a medical helicopter and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. No immediate information was available about their conditions.

02/04/14 Fire Seriously Damages New Castle Home
02/04/14  New Castle firemen were called to a Harrison Street home for a fire in the bedroom. Heavy smoke poured from the upper floor and attic as our crew arrived on the scene. One resident who was home at the time escaped the flames.

Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Car in Mahoning Twp
02/04/14 A Cedar Manor assisted care facility resident was killed Tuesday night after being hit by a car on Route 422 in Mahoning Township. After being hit, the man was unresponsive at the scene and was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown where he was pronounced dead. Police are trying to determine if the man was on the roadway or on the berm. The driver of the car was cooperating with police in their investigation.

02/01/14 Three Fires Damage Buildings in New Castle
Three separate fires kept New Castle Firemen busy over the week end. The first was at the A-Space warehouse facility along Moravia Street and two others were at vacant commercial buildings. Video available only to "Emergency Personnel".

01/30/14 Man Shot Dead Behind Moravia Street Garage

Woman Dies In Route 18 North Beaver Township Accident
01/29/2014  A 27 year-old West Pittsburgh woman was killed in a single vehicle accident this morning on Route 18 in North Beaver Township. Heidi Lynn Holland was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County deputy coroner Richard Johnson. According to New Castle State Police, around 8:20 am Holland lost control of her southbound vehicle near Hall Town Road, struck a guardrail on the west berm, spun her vehicle around and struck and ended up on the guardrail on the east berm. North Beaver Township Fire Department assisted PSP at the scene. Police are still trying to determine why Holland lost control of her vehicle, a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu.

01/08/14 Fire Seriously Damages Wayne Township Home
01/08/14  Three women and a 21 month old baby escape a house fire this morning on Church Street in Wayne Township. One dog was rescued and a cat was unaccounted for. Firemen arrived to find smoke coming from the one story wood frame home but brought the flames under control in about twenty minutes. Wayne Township firemen told us that the fire was contained to the wall area around the chimney and have not yet determined a cause. The Red Cross was called to assist the family.

01/07/14 Neshannock First Merit Bank Robbed
01/07/2014  Shortly before noon today, a man walked into the Neshannock branch of First Merit Bank on Wilmington Road and demanded money. He is a white male in his twenties, wearing a gray hoody, blue jeans and a blue stocking cap. He then fled through several parking lots before escaping. You are asked to call Neshannock Police if you have any information on this incident.

01/01/2014 Union Township Harbor-Edinburg Road House Fire
01/01/14 Firemen were called to a old two-story wood frame house on Harbor-Edinburg Road for a fire around 2 am this morning. When they arrived at the scene, they found the front of the house totally in flames. The woman who lived there was away at the time. She believes her pit bull dog and a cat died in the fire. The home burned to the ground and the fire marshal has been called to investigate.
