06/01/12 Three Youths Rescued From River in Ellwood City
Date and Time:
Location: Connoquenessing River Ellwood City, Pennsylvania Lawrence County
06/01/12 Three youths, ranging in ages of 12 to 13 years old, were pulled from a rock in the middle of the Connoquenessing Creek after being stranded during a sudden downpour yesterday evening. The incident occurred in the river and down a steep embankment just off Pittsburgh Circle in Ellwood City around 7:30 p.m. After accessing the situation, Ellwood City Police and Fire Departments contacted the "swift water rescue team" from the Beaver Falls Fire Department to help in the rescue. After arriving, rescue crews descended down the steep embankment just off Pittsburgh Circle in Ellwood City. Ropes were secured along the way to help in the descent and the eventual return up the hill. After reaching the river, rescuers attached a rope to the rock which was about thirty to forty feet off shore and removed the youths, one at a time. After bringing them to the top of the hill and awaiting family members, they were checked out by medical personnel. Other than being cold and wet, the youths suffered no serious injuries.
