11/29/08 Hiker Tony Delserone Rescued at Hells Hollow

It was around 5:30 p.m. when 48 year old Tony Delserone, an experienced hiker from Franklin Park near Wexford, made a distress call for help. Soon rescue personnel from Slippery Rock Twp., Portersville and Shenango Fire Departments were on the scene in the Hellís Hollow area of McConnellís Mill State Park along Shaffer Road in Slippery Rock Twp. Park Rangers from DCNR located at the park and several dog search teams also converged on the scene at the parking lot in Hellís Hollow. Search teams entered from both ends of the trail and took several hours to locate and extricate the hiker from the woods. He was able to walk out on his own without assistance. Noga ambulance personnel were on standby at the scene but Delserone didnít require medical attention and drove himself back to the Wexford area. Delserone went on to praise everyone for their efforts, commending rescue crews on their professionalism. Joe Sobczak of KDSTV expressed his gratitude to Chief Bill Lunn and the Slippery Rock Twp. Fire Department (Lawrence Co.) and DCNR park rangers for assistance with KDSTVís disabled vehicle.
