03/05/09 Crocodile Found After Fire at Former Elementary School
Date and Time:
Location: North Beaver Township
Firemen arrived on the scene shortly after the fire was reported around 2 p.m. this afternoon. Smoke was coming from the roof of the old Mt. Jackson Elementary School which is located just behind the former North Beaver High School on Route 551 in Mt. Jackson. Firemen brought the fire under control in less than an hour. It was then that the discovery was made of dozens of animals in the building. Wes Osborne, a wildlife control specialist from Pulaski Township, was called to the scene to corral the nearly six-foot crocodile. When it was learned that the owner of the animals broke no law in keeping them on the property, they were returned to him. The state fire marshal is investigating the fire which could have been caused by the crocodile knocking over nearby space heaters. Neighbors have been complaining for years about the debris and animals that have been kept on the property.
