10/01/11 Shortly before noon today, a 19 year-old male traveling south on Woodside Ave. in the direction of Ellwood City, fell asleep, causing his vehicle to travel into a 3 car-garage and burst into flames. He was able to get out of the vehicle before the garage became fully involved. He was checked by medical personnel at the scene but did not require treatment. Residents of the home, Troy and Jody Nagel, were too distraught to go on camera. Troy is seen in a grey hoody talking on a cell phone and pulling a trailer away from fire. The couple were in the front room of the house when the crash occurred. The house nearly escaped being hit by the runaway vehicle. Inside the garage were 3 ATVs, 1 motorcycle and a brand new truck plus the drivers vehicle. Jody’s brother, who also would not go on camera, was planning on working on his truck in the garage today exactly where the runaway vehicle ended up but changed his mind this morning. He considers himself a lucky man today. The fire chief lives less than a half a mile away and arrived immediately on the scene to see flames coming from the garage. Firemen used foam to fight the fire which was fueled by gasoline in the vehicles. A neighbor tells us the roadway in this area has been the scene of many accidents. It is not known if any charges will be filed against the driver.
