02/12/11 Ellwood City Police received a call at 8:10 a.m. about a small child found wandering on Fifth Street near Lawrence Avenue. According to  Patrolman Matthew Liberatore of the Ellwood City Police Department., a witness reported almost hitting the child in the turning lanes on Fifth Street between Beaver Ave. and Lawrence Ave. A second man coming upon the scene stopped to avoid the child and his girlfriend jumped out of the car and retrieved the child. He was taken to a nearby business and police were called. The male child, believed to be about two years old, was dressed in flannel pajamas. Police could not locate the parents and at 9:45 a.m. the father came to the station to report the child missing. Police did not say how the child got away from his father. The police notified CYS and they took the child into custody and from an order issued by Lawrence County Judge John  Hodge, sent the child to foster care. The father, whose name was not released, is expected to be arraigned on Monday for child endangerment charges and possibly others..
