A 73 year old Slippery Rock Township woman escaped with only her life and the clothes she was wearing. Sarah Aiken of  312 Walnut Tree Lane in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, heard cracking and popping in her hallway around 10 o’clock this morning. When she went to investigate, she found flames blocking her exit. She escaped the fire, but was unable to save her dog and several cats. Her 17 year-old grandson was in school and later came to scene to be with his grandmother. She told KDSTV’s Joe Sobczak that she was not able to get her purse or her car keys before fleeing the fire. She went on to say that she has lived in the home for nearly 50 years.
Aiken said that her daughter Vicki, who lives in Florida, was expected to be making her way to Pennsylvania to be with her. Fireman were hampered by lack of man power and water which had to be trucked to the scene. Over 10 fire companies assisted in fighting the fire.
