Location: 3363 State Road (Route 388) Hickory Township Lawrence County
01/02/13 No one was at home at the time and the fate of two dogs who were inside and rescued from the burning home is unknown. The home on State Road in Hickory Township was gutted by the late afternoon fire. The young couple who lived in the house were apparently at work when the fire began. Several passersby noticed the flames and kicked in the door to search for several dogs after they became aware that they were still in the home. Firemen later found the unresponsive dogs under the kitchen table and transported them for treatment at a local veterinarian. Their condition is unknown. According to a neighbor, the young couple had recently moved into the home and was remodeling it. Hickory Township Fire Chief David White said the fire began on the first floor but the cause is not immediately known. The state fire marshal was called to investigate the fire. No damage estimate was available. At least six fire companies fought the fire in frigid temperatures and deep snow.
