House Fire 8097 Old Route 422, Portersville
Two occupants there at the time
Robert and Valerie Leasure (brother and sister)
They were staying in their parents home while they were in Florida
Saw smoke and fire in laundry room
When firemen arrived, smoke coming from all areas
and flames shooting from the right side of the double-wide modular home
Both occupants escaped along with their dog and pet turtle
The home will probably be called a total loss
The single digit temperatures caused no problems with fire equipment.
No firemen injured
7 departments on scene to fight the fire
Robert Leasure was able to drive one of his vehicles out of the garage
but a bobcat front end loader in the other stall was damaged
Fire marshal was on scene and says the fire is not suspicious and is
calling the cause of the fire "undetermined" as of now.
The couple told him they had a smoke alarm but it was not working because of a dead battery.
They were fortunate to be awake at the time of the fire,
Chief Johnson goes on to say that it is very important to have working smoke alarms.
They do save lives!
